Katie Ann Huhta, age 12, of Big Lake, MN passed away on August 5, 2014 at her home with family and friends nearby after a 5 ½ year battle with a cancerous brain tumor.

She was born on August 27, 2001 in Minneapolis, MN the daughter of Brent and Jennifer (Kesti) Huhta.

Katie attended Big Lake Independence Elementary and Middle School. She and her family are members of the Laestadian Lutheran Church of Elk River where she attended Sunday school. Katie was a brave, courageous girl who endured many surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation treatments and related hospital stays. She made a large, positive impact on the lives of many people throughout her life.

She is survived by her parents; 12 siblings: Troy, Bryan, Amber, Kyle, Kristine, Lea, Nathan, Aaron, Henry, Jared, Drew and Heather; grandparents Ken and Edna Kesti, Les and Jean Huhta; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Funeral service for Katie Huhta was held on Monday, August 11, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Rockford Laestadian Lutheran Church, 741 Ibarra Avenue NE, Buffalo, MN.

Visitation was held on Sunday, August 10, 2014 from 5-8 PM at the church. A prayer service was held at 7:00 PM. Further visitation was held one hour prior to the services on Monday at the church.

Casket Bearers were Troy Huhta, Bryan Huhta, Kyle Huhta, Nathan Huhta, Aaron Huhta, Henry Huhta, Jared Huhta and Drew Huhta.

Interment at Riverside Cemetery, Monticello, MN.

The Peterson Chapel, Buffalo, MN assisted the family with arrangements.
