Katelyn Ann Buscher, age 12, of Buffalo passed away on Thursday, October 29th at her residence.
She was born on May 1, 2003 in Robbinsdale the daughter of Adam & Jaime (Shackelton) Buscher.
Katelyn’s cancer journey began in 2006 at the age of 3. She was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, with tumors in both her brain and spine. She went through multiple surgeries, aggressive radiation, and chemotherapy. Treatment left her with many side effects, however that never stopped Katelyn from living life to the fullest. Life continued to give her challenges when she suffered from hundred’s of mini-strokes and then a massive stroke in 2009 at the age of 6, following her 3rd brain surgery. Once again, Katelyn proved how strong she was and fought to regain everyday functions and skills.
Tragedy then struck again in 2014 at the age of 11, when she was diagnosed with a secondary cancer which was radiation-induced osteosarcoma in her skull and brain. After another brain surgery and chemotherapy treatment, the dreaded words were spoken; there was nothing more the doctors could medically do to cure her. She was sent home on hospice in May 2014, and Katelyn once again showed the world how strong and courageous she could be. She has shown all of those around her that life is as great as you make it and to always make the most out of it.
Katelyn left a legacy and changed many people’s lives through her will to fight. She had a way of teaching others that everyday struggles were often never as big as perceived. There were so many people that thought of Katelyn and her fight when they were going through rough times. She struggled daily but always did so with a smile on her face.
Katelyn enjoyed legos, movies, flowers, barbies, the Wii, bike rides and car rides, attending her brother’s sporting events and swimming.
Survived by loving parents: Adam & Jaime Buscher; a brother: Nathan Buscher; grandparents: Deb & Jim Shackelton of Monticello, Valerie & Arthur Luce of Panama City Beach, Florida, Terri Buscher of Bemidji and Thomas Buscher of St. Michael; great grandparents: Lawrence “Sonny” Ramthun of Big Lake and Marion Buscher of Monticello; aunts & uncles: Jason (Kelly Monson) Shackelton, Dan (Christine) Luce, Jennie (Leighton) Wheeler and Alex Buscher; and by cousins: Rileigh, Sophia and Stella Shackelton; other relatives and friends.
