June Barbara (Nelson) Holmstrom, age 91 of Buffalo, passed away March 5, 2021.
She was born on June 3, 1929 in Watertown, MN to Sam and Amanda (Borgeson) Nelson.
On July 5, 1952, June B. Nelson and James F. Holmstrom were joined in marriage in Watertown, MN. God blessed their marriage with five children.
June and Jim moved from Crystal, MN to Buffalo in 1965. They began raising their family on a farm on Washington Lake. After 50 years of enjoying the farm, the lake, and numerous gatherings with family and friends, they moved into Park Terrace Assisted Living and Park View Care Center in Buffalo. This is where they continued to make more friends and memories. After Jim’s passing, June was well loved and cared for by the staff at Park Terrace, and she loved and appreciated all of them.
June was a member of Buffalo Covenant Church, helping out where needed. Her Christian faith taught her to love others. She was a blessing to all those whose lives she touched, and they were a blessing to her. June’s favorite pastime was to color pictures to hand out to everyone she knew.
June is survived by her children: Barb (Ed) VanVleet, Rick, Nancy (Brian) Varner, and Kim (Scott) Heinecke; 9 grandchildren: Jeremy (Onna) Carlson, Mike (Miranda) VanVleet, Missy Conavatti, Steven (Allie) VanVleet, Josh Varner, Nicki Varner, Dareck Heinecke, Sara Heinecke, Meranda Heinecke; 8 great-grandchildren: Austin, Carter, Emily, Liam, Ryker, Gannon, Nora, and Ezekiel.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jim; son, Steven Holmstrom; her parents; two brothers; and one sister.

It was an absolute privilege to cook for June & Jim at Park View Care Center & then at Park Terrace after Jim passed. She was always full of love & sunshine. She always referred to me as the Lutefisk lady. She was always a joy to visit with. My heart hurts for her family & friends. She touched so many people & she will be loved & missed forever.

She will be missed by the extended Nelson family. I’m so glad that I got to be with her a couple of times in the past few years: at the 2010 Nelson reunion in Watertown and then at a small gathering at she and Jim’s home. Such a sweet and precious lady.

What a sweet, precious woman. She was greatly loved. My mom and June were best friends and cousins, therefore I was named after June. Rebecca June. I will wear her name proudly all my life. HEAPS of hugs for June’s whole family.
June (and husband Jim) were long-time friends of ours. We lost touch with them when they moved from their farm to an assisted living. I (Dorothy)met June when she was single and lived with her sister on Park Av., Mpls. I’d love to share some of the fun stories from that era, with her family, as well as canoe trips they introduced us to and much more. She was a wonderful, loyal friend who loved Jesus and was a spiritual encouragement as well.

My ray of sunshine may u be at peace. My heart is very sad. I come to work look at your empty room and ill cherish every moment I was able to be part of. June was so special and for me selfishly a reason to wake up and go to work knowing I would see my June. I called her my June and told her I’d never leave ever until God called her home. Her hugs were genuine and her talks were filled with love and compassion. I will always here your best giggles when I told some funny stories about my husband and I. Barb and family, I’m sorry to learn of your mom’s passing. Bob always spoke of Auntie June’s kindness. You may know that Bob died in April of 2020. It was sudden and unexpected and I miss him terribly. I am grateful for the gathering at our home a few years back. It was fun to hear from the cousins of your memories growing up that fun evening.
