Visitation Information

Joy Lynn (Rentz) Varner, age 54, of Buffalo passed away on Wednesday, December 2nd, 2015 at her residence.

She was born on September 7, 1961 in Buffalo the daughter of Maynard “Jack” and Elaine “Pat” (DeMarais) Rentz Sr.

Joy graduated from Buffalo High School in 1979.
Joy Lynn Rentz and Ralph T. Varner were joined in holy marriage. Their marriage was blessed with three beautiful daughters Kali, Jade and Randi.

Joy raised the girls without a lot of help from Ralph, he was a dairy- hog farmer. Joy did a wonderful job with the girls teaching them about cooking, baking, gardening, sewing, and crocheting. Joy always said you have to put your love into cooking and baking in order for it to be great! Nobody could make better potato salad than her!

Joy loved to entertain at the pool, but in winter…off to Mexico! A bikini, several good books, 10 pairs of sandals, long walks on the beach and some deep sea fishing. Two weeks just wasn’t enough! When the girls got to be a certain age, they came along and loved the ocean and said that it was way better than going to Disney World, for there was no waiting in line.

Joy lived and worked in Buffalo. She formerly worked at Parker Hannifin Corporation in Golden Valley for ten years and also managed a dog kennel for twenty six years. Joy loved her dogs, cats and horses. She became a foster mom to many animals over the years.

She loved to grow flowers and tropical plants. Every spring we would bring up the pots and she would plant as many as seventy-five. Her flowers were amazing!

You will always be in our hearts!

Survived by husband: Ralph Varner; daughters: Kali (James) Magnuson of Rockford, Jade Varner of Big Lake and Randi Varner of Buffalo; a granddaughter: Arianna Morrissette; sisters: Jody Rentz (Rick) of Florida and Judy (Kevin) DeWall/Dykhuizen of Buffalo; nieces and nephews: Lacey Rentz (Eric Klatt), Lindsay Worth, Brandon Dykhuizen, Allison Dykhuizen, Evan Maltzen and Ryan Maltzen; great nephews: Dylan Hareid, Chase Worth and Cole Worth; a cousin: Ronald (Sheree) Rentz; father-in-law & mother-in-law: Norman & Cathy Varner of Buffalo; sister-in-laws: Ruth (Michael) Rose and Jill (Justin) Johnson; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents, a brother Jon Rentz and by a sister-in-law Laurie Rentz.

A Celebration of Life for Joy Lynn Rentz Varner will be held on Monday, December 7th, 2015 from 5-7 P.M. at Huikko’s Bison Creek, 1207 N. Highway 25, in Buffalo, MN.

I sat next to Joy in Mr. Squadroni’s English class at Buffalo Senior High. I was a sophomore and she was a junior. She would laugh at my jokes and for a few moments I would not feel like an awkward teenage putz. My sympathies to her family and friends.

My sincerest sympathies to all of you. I will truly miss Joy. She had such a huge heart and one of my favorite things about her was her love of animals and her family. She was so proud of the girls and it showed every time she talked about them. Hugs to you all.
