Joseph R. Lantto, age 69, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2012 at University of Minnesota Medical Center-Fairview, Minneapolis, MN after a lengthy but courageous battle with Leukemia.
Joseph was born in St. Cloud, MN the son of George and Irene (Forare) Lantto. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, French Lake, MN.
Joe graduated from Annandale High School and Northwest Technical College. He worked as a draftsman/CAD operator for Electric Machinery in Minneapolis for 3 years and Wright Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association in Rockford, MN for 34 ½ years when he retired.
Joseph Lantto and Marcia Peterson were married on April 11, 1964 at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo, MN by Pastor Andrew Cornell. Joe joined Zion Church and was an usher for many years. He also became a Stephan minister.
Joe changed his life in 1978 when he completed a recovery program at St. Mary’s Hospital and maintained his sobriety for the rest of his life. He was a volunteer at New Beginnings in Waverly, MN.
He enjoyed tinkering with his cars, collecting things, and tending to his yard and his flower and vegetable gardens.
Joe is survived by his wife Marcia, his cats Pumkin and Shadow, brothers Todd (Gayle) of Chanhassen, MN, Tim (Pam) of Elk River, MN, Curt (Chris) of Chaska, MN and Thomas (Lilia) of Buffalo, MN, brother-in-law Tom (Jody) Peterson of Apple Valley, CA, sisters-in-law Gerry Ann Lantto of Golden Valley, MN, Dyane (Kenny) Kyllonen of New Hope, MN, Patti (Steve) Behrenbrinker of Sauk Rapids, MN, Lee Ann (Ken) Yager of Maple Lake, MN, mother-in-law Ferne Peterson, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Paul Lantto, father-in-law Bud Peterson and niece Ava Behrenbrinker.
Visitation for Joseph Lantto will be held on Monday, June 18, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo from 2-4 PM.
A Funeral Service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church at 4 PM with Pastor Luke Schmidt and Pastor Ted Vanderpan officiating.
Casket Bearers will be Todd Lantto, Curt Lantto, Josh Lantto, Ken Yager, Markus Yager and Peter Yager.
Honorary Casket Bearers will be Tim Lantto, David Lantto, Steve Behrenbrinker, Tom Peterson, Kenny Kyllonen and Rich Ladoux.
Interment at Lakeview Cemetery, Buffalo, MN
Joe will be fondly missed by his family, many friends and acquaintances.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Zion Foundation of Buffalo or the Animal Humane Society.
The Peterson Chapel of Buffalo, MN assisted the family with arrangements.
Joe was a great guy and will be missed by all.
Marcia; I cannot begin to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. I worked with Joe at Wright Hennepin and we both retired on the same day. Joe was always so pleasant and caring. May God wrap his arms around you and give you peace and strength to get through this. He will truly be missed by everyone.
