Joseph “Joe” Raymond Kalway was born in Maple Lake on February 10, 1945 to Raymond and Eva (Elletson) Kalway. Joe worked hard all his life. God decided he needed some rest and took him home on March 26, 2018 after a long battle with cancer.

On September 14, 1974, Joe married Ruth (Schubert) Vernarelli. Joe brought Bradley, and Ruth brought Scott and Lora into this union. Joe was very active in his children’s lives coaching football and softball, and being a leader to Lora in Y Indian Princesses. As the kids got older, they would motorcycle as a family going to the 50th Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota. He loved to ride.

For 13+ years, Joe and Ruth served as members of the Wright County Sheriff’s Reserve. They both enjoyed giving back to the communities they served together.

In Texas, Joe was active in the Senior Center working with Meals on Wheels. Joe was also in charge of a Pancakes and More breakfast in Aladdin Villa in Mission.

Joe is survived by his wife, Ruth, of 43 years; mother Eva Ordorff of Buffalo; father Raymond Kalway of Buffalo; sister Marcia (Leo) Endres of Buffalo; brother Jim (Shirley) Kalway of Monticello; brother Kenny (Judy) Kalway of Monticello; sister Karen (Gary) Biegert of Buffalo; sons Brad of Detroit Lakes and Scott (Gaylene) Kalway of Urbandale, IA; daughter Lora Nichols of Buffalo; granddaughters Rebecca (Troy) Heuring of Waverly and Alexis Nichols of Buffalo; grandson Connor Kalway of Detroit Lakes; other relatives and friends.

Memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 19th at 11 AM at Buffalo United Methodist Church in Buffalo. Pastor Bill Reinhart will officiate.

A visitation will be held Thursday, April 19th from 10 – 11 AM at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Buffalo Food Shelf.

The Peterson Chapel, Buffalo, MN is serving the family.
