Jon Selby Anderson, age 75 of Rogers, Minnesota passed away on December 2, 2022 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota due to a severe stroke.  He was born on March 25, 1947 in Austin, Minnesota the son of Howard S. Anderson and Marlys L. Glovatzka.

Jon’s love for cars started at an early age while racing quarter midgets that his father built.  He graduated from Austin high school in 1965 and then went on to attend Staples Area Vo-tech for 2 years taking up drafting.

In 1968, Jon married Carol Hanson at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples, Minnesota.  They moved to Everett, Washington where Jon worked for Boeing drafting parts on the 747 project. Moving back to Minnesota Jon worked various jobs as a draftsman before settling in Austin, MN to work for Hormel for the next 5 years.  He was then transferred to the Hormel plant in Fremont, Nebraska where the family stayed for 10 years.  The 1986 events of the Hormel strike returned the family back to Minneapolis, Minnesota where Jon eventually settled in to work for Caterpillar; retiring from them in 2012.   Jon quickly became restless during retirement and took a driver’s job with NAPA for the next 9 years.

Throughout his days, Jon’s enthusiasm for cars remained steadfast while he created his own custom cars and was sought out by others to help with everything from dirt-track and drag racers to custom show vehicles.  In 1986, Jon worked on the Pit Crew for SCCA race car driver Pete Brallier of San Mateo, California.  His own custom-built highlights were, a 1955 Chevy, a 1940 Chevy, a 1963 Nova, a 1957 Volkswagen Bug and a Yamaha Motorcycle; all of which were featured in various hot rod magazines.  Jon even hand-built metal strollers for his grandchildren that mimicked the real-life hot rods.

Jon is survived by his loving wife of 54 years; Carol; children: Trevor Smith, Sean (Kim) Anderson, and Megan (Brian) Hamrick; grandchildren, who affectionately referred to him as “Papa”: Zachary Smith, Noah Anderson, Michael Anderson and Eliana Hamrick; sister: Sharelle (Bob) Whittaker; brother: Roy (Ann) Anderson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many special friends

Preceded in death by his parents.
