John Walter Weiss of Battle Lake, Minnesota and Belton, Texas passed away on October 7, 2023.  He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to parents Walter and Loretta Weiss.

John and his family moved to Battle Lake Minnesota, where they built and operated a family resort on Ottertail Lake.  After he graduated from Battle Lake high school, he enlisted in the Army in 1953 and proudly served his country as a Specialist Second Class (Sp2 (T)) until his honorable discharge in 1955.

Upon completing his military duty, John pursued higher education at the University of Minnesota, where he studied mechanical engineering.  It was during his time in college that he met the love of his life, Dorothy.  They were married in 1959.

John’s career led him to 3M, where he worked until his well-earned retirement in 1994.  His commitment to excellence earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike.

John faced the loss of his beloved Dorothy, but life had more blessings instore for him.  He met Ann, whom he spent 12 wonderful years with before she passed away.

John was a man of many qualities, but his dry sense of humor and sociable nature stood out the most.  He had an uncanny ability to make friends effortlessly and engaged in conversations with anyone he met.  His gift of gab and ability to connect with people endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is preceded in death by his loves, Dorothy and Ann; parents, Walter and Loretta, sister, June (Sam).

John is survived by his children, Catherine (Mike), Patricia (Jim), Michele; grandchildren, Samantha (Jerry), Jonathan (Vasilisa), Ian, Christina (Nick), Ashley (Jake), Sydney (fiancé Jared), and Aaron; great-grandchildren Wade, Waylon, JJ and more on the way.

A graveside service with military honors for John will be held on Monday, November 27, 2023 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at 11:00 AM, meet in assembly area #3.
