John ‘Jack’ Boogren returned to his heavenly home on September 14, 2017, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. His devotion to his family and firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.

Jack was born to the late John and Lorraine Boogren in St Paul Minnesota on April 29, 1949. He attended the Johnson high school in 1967, then graduated from the St Paul Technical Vocational Institute with a certification in restaurant and hotel management. He dedicated his life to the service of the nation and others; enlisting in the US Navy in October 1968 where he served with the VF 213 Blacklion Squadron on the USS KittyHawk. A decorated veteran, he was given honorary discharge in 1971. His passion for mentoring young men could be seen early on in his role as a volunteer with the correction department. He retired from Great River Energy in 2014 and was able to devote more time to his family as well as indulge in his many hobbies which included hunting and restoring vintage scooters.

Jack was known for his zest for life and many passions. He was a professional bass fisherman, an avid corvette drag racer and member of his local gun club where he enjoyed trap and western shooting.

Jack was loyal, kind and always made time for others. He drew strength from his strong personal faith and in the midst of his own battle with cancer happily dedicated his time to volunteering at the Buffalo Hospital cancer centre.

His enthusiasm was contagious and he won the respect of all who crossed his path. He was affectionately viewed as a grandfather and mentor by many of the neighborhood kids who would drop in for popsicles or to see a demonstration of his remote controlled cars and planes.

Jack was blessed with a large and loving family and is survived by his best friend and wife of 16 years Sharon, Children Jacqueline (Rick) Gorman and Troy (Gina) Boogren , Step children Shad (Melissa) Ketcher, Brock (Naomi) Ketcher and Nicole (Tim) Landon, Sisters Bonnie (Tim) Schreiber and Joan (James) Hoover, 12 grandchildren, nieces and nephews as well as many friends that have become like family. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Lorraine Boogren.

He will be dearly missed but we are comforted that He is finally at peace.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Buffalo Hospital Foundation – Virginia Piper Cancer Research

Funeral service for Jack will be held Thursday, September 21 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. all at Zion Lutheran Church, 1200 Highway 25 South, Buffalo.

Officiating will be Pastor Ted Vanderpan

Casket bearers for Jack will be Justin Pool, Mike Kleist, Hunter Poncius, Gerrit Poncius, Josh Gustafson and Tim Schmidt.

Luncheon to follow the service at church

Interment will be Monday, September 25 at 10:30 a.m. Assembly Area 4 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
