John “Jack” Hareid passed away peacefully Monday, October 29, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. Jack pursued a 32 year military career in both Active Duty and Army Reserve, where he earned many accomplishments and numerous awards, his proudest being graduating from the Sargeant Majors Academy in 1980. In addition, he had a 40 year civilian career serving as the Unit Administrator for the 353rd Transportation Company in Buffalo, MN.

In 1964 Jack married Sharon (Minnier) and they made their home in Buffalo, where they raised their two sons: Todd (Renee) Hareid of Monticello and Ryan Hareid (Deceased), they were also blessed with four grandchildren: Melissa Hareid of Rockford, Anthony (Irina) Hareid of Eielson AFB, AK, Jonathon Hareid of Buffalo and Dylan Hareid of Buffalo; two great grandchildren: Hailey Eagles of Rockford and Mia Hareid of Eielson AFB, he is also survived by a sister: Patricia (Darwin) Ripley of Alexandria, many nieces and nephews.

Enjoying a good cigar, you might find him fishing with his son and grandsons and handing out a treat to any neighborhood dog that happened to stop by. He loved the outdoors, and he also loved woodworking and puttering around in his garage-but most of all, he loved his family, who will miss him dearly.

My favorite name for you Jack was
“Top” due to you being the best in so many ways. Knowledge, organization, people skills and a devoted friend/Army brother. May your family take solace that you are now in the arms of our Lord. Your presence will remain in our hearts forever. We love you and miss you.

So sorry to hear of your loss. We knew Jack from the 353rd. Although we had lost touch with him in the past few years due to military obligations, he was thought of often. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
