John Earle Nord, age 90, died on October 31, 2013 at the Park View Care Center in Buffalo, Minnesota where he had lived for the past six years.

“Earle” was known to everyone as a kind, gentle, quiet and intelligent man who always put others first. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, son, nephew and friend. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife Arlene, his children and grandchildren and extended family. From doing lawn work for an elderly neighbor to taking care of family pets, he worked tirelessly in service to others.
Beyond his family Earle was passionate about loving God, activities in the church, and world history. He was a voracious reader of books and news magazines and had a seemingly unlimited knowledge on many subjects.

Earle was born on June 13, 1923, in Hawley, MN to the late John H. and Emma (Steen) Nord. He graduated from Lake Park High School excelling academically, enough to skip 8th grade. He served in the Navy toward the end of World War II choosing not to apply for offered higher ranks so that he can return home more quickly.
After his service in the Navy ended in 1946, Earle managed the family farm in Hawley, Minnesota with his brother Donald Nord.

In 1965 he married Arlene Melvie and eventually moved his young family to a suburb of Minneapolis. Later he made the decision to move the family to Buffalo, Minnesota for the excellent schools.

Earle was a dedicated, well-liked worker for 26 years at Super Radiator Coils at their former St. Louis Park location. He retired at the young age of 72. At his retirement picnic the president of the company complimented Earle saying, “I wish I had an entire crew of workers like Earle.”

During his last years at the Park View Care Center, the staff came to know Earle and appreciate his gracious, generous heart.

Earle is survived by his wife of 48 years, Arlene (Melvie) Nord; two sons, Brian (Kris) Nord and Allen (Donna) Nord; two daughters, Cindy (Scott) Purser and Angie Nord; brother Don (Ellen) Nord, sister Erma Teisberg; four grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and friends. His sister Viola (Leon) Erlien preceded him in death.
