Johann Gale Grunow, Age 84, of Buffalo, Minnesota (formerly of Brighton and Detroit, Michigan) passed away during the early morning on August 25th, 2015. Parents Olive and Oliver Grunow, sisters Fredrica Houston, Harriet Fisher and Patricia Ruhr and brother Robert and by a niece Ruth Edlund preceded Johann in death.

Johann will be deeply missed by her niece Rebecca Hahnke of Buffalo, Minnesota and nephews John Robert Houston of Dallas, Texas, Ron Ruhr of Longmont, Colorado, Robert Ruhr of Alexandria, Minnesota and Roger and Rick Ruhr of Buffalo, Minnesota; her many grandnieces and grandnephews, many cousins, dear friends and her beloved Cairn Terrier Annabel.

Johann was born on April 11th, 1931 and grew up in Detroit, Michigan. She graduated from high school and attended two years of college. Johann never married but her nieces, nephews and later grandnieces and grandnephews were the lights of her life. Johann had a lifelong passion for music and she loved playing classical and liturgical music on her electric piano. Johann was a deeply religious person. Johann attended St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brighton, Michigan and St. Francis Xavier Church in Buffalo, Minnesota. She worked as a clerk, bookkeeper and receptionist for many years.

Johann lived in Detroit and later Brighton, Michigan for most of her adult life and then in 2004 she moved to Buffalo, Minnesota to be near her family. Johann loved literature and deeply enjoyed her time with the writing group at the Cottagewood senior home, “The Almost Dead Poets Society”.

Johann loved her family but especially treasured the time she had with her grandnieces, grandnephews and great grandnieces Pearl and Evelyn.

Friends may call at the Peterson Chapel on Monday August 31st from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 1st at the Church of St. Francis and interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Casket Bearers are Rick Ruhr, Bob Ruhr, Matt Ruhr, Roger Ruhr, Stephen Ruhr, Joel Hahnke, and John Landkamer.
