December 6, 1939 – February 26, 2024

Joanne Mary Silbernick Kerkaert, age 84 of St. Michael passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024 at Haven Homes in Maple Plain.

She was born in Minneapolis the daughter of Joseph and Frances (Snell) Jacobson.

Joanne graduated from St. Margaret’s Academy High School and The St. Gabriel School of Nursing.

On June 20, 1959, Joanne M. Jacobson and Robert O. “Bob” Silbernick were joined in holy marriage at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Minneapolis.   God blessed their marriage with four daughters Deborah, Diane, Denise and Delores.

She was formerly employed at Medical Clinic in Fridley and for twenty-five years at N.E. Urology  in Fridley and Coon Rapids.

She also taught C.P.R. for twenty years including at many Community Ed Programs.

Joanne and Bob moved to St. Michael from N.E. Minneapolis in May of 1976.

Joanne was the former Mayor of St. Michael from 1990-1994 and was the First Woman Mayor in the History of St. Michael.

Survived by four daughters: Deb (Gary) Kilian, Diane (Tim) Revering, Denise (Joe) Daleiden and Delores (Gary) Lindenfelser; 5 step children; 17 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren; a sister: Cathy Kerkaert; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by her husbands Robert O. “Bob” Silbernick and Andrew Kerkaert, her parents Joseph and Frances Jacobson, an infant son Stephen and by her father-in-law and mother-in-law Oswald & Ludwina Silbernick.

Funeral services for Joanne Silbernick Kerkaert will be held on Monday, March 4th, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at The Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home.   Deacon Sherman Otto will officiate.

Interment St. Michael Cemetery in St. Michael, MN.

A visitation will be held on Monday, March 4th from 11:00 A.M. until time of services at the funeral home.

Casket Bearers will be Sheila Ulen, Bryan Daleiden, Stephen Ebner, Tony Kilian, Josh Kilian and Alex Kilian.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a Charity of your choice.

    Our condolences to the family. Have seen your mom around for a while, she was a good neighbor back when her and Bob were close by. Won’t be able to make due to another conflict. May she rest in peace.
