Joanne Marie “Joni” Anderson, age 67 of rural Buffalo passed away on Sunday, February 20th, 2011 at Park View Care Center in Buffalo.

She was born on February 26, 1943 in Chatham Township, Wright County the daughter of Leo “Bill” and Antoinette McCalpin Smith.

Joni graduated from Buffalo High School in 1961.

On October 15, 1966, Joanne M. “Joni” Smith and David A. Anderson were joined in holy marriage at St. Francis Catholic Church in Buffalo. God blessed their marriage with two sons.

Prior to her marriage, Joni worked part time as the secretary to The Wright County Sheriff. She was the first female Wright County Deputy Sheriff serving from 1967 until 1985. Following her retirement, she continued as a bailiff at The Wright County Courthouse until her health deteriorated.

She was a lifelong, faithful member of The Church of St. Francis in Buffalo.

Through the years, she enjoyed her work and loved her family.

Survived by loving husband: David A. Anderson; sons: Marty C. (Michelle) Anderson of Edina and Grant A. (Amy) Anderson of Beaverton, Oregon; grandchildren: Maxwell & Maya; and Tyler; her mother: Antoinette Smith of Buffalo; a brother: Jim Smith of Maple Lake; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by her father and by an infant brother Gerald Smith.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Joanne “Joni” Anderson will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 24th at The Church of St. Francis in Buffalo. Father David Hennen will be the Celebrant. A time of gathering will be held AT THE CHURCH on Thursday morning, February 24th beginning at 9:30 A.M.

    I was so sorry to hear of the loss of Joni. I have fond memories of her taking me to the A&W for lunch when I was a little girl and she worked in the Sheriff’s office with my Father, Jim Kreitlow. RIP Joni.
