Visitation Information

Jerome “Romie” Albert Vizenor, age 69 of Rogers, died at home with his wife at his side on Thursday, May 7, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer (not all heroes wear capes).

Jerome was born on December 31, 1939 in Foley to Albert L. and Alma R. (nee Jaeckels) Vizenor. A Class of ‘57 graduate of Foley High School, Jerome served in the US Army from 1957-1960. On May 24, 1958 he was united in marriage to V. Rachel Craig in Huntsville, Alabama. They were blessed with three children. A member of Brick Layers Local #1, Jerome worked for 35 years in construction, semi-retiring from Molin Construction. With the motto “Work hard and play hard” Jerome enjoyed working in his golden years as a janitor for Hennepin County. Romie coached softball for Albertville for many years, leading the team to win national tournaments. He enjoyed going to Casinos but loved spending time with his family (especially his grandkids) and playing cards and board games with them.

Jerome is survived by his wife of nearly 51 years, Rachel; children: Debbie (Mike) Rabe, Rogers, Jan (Rick) Moeser, Princeton, and Jeff (Amy) Vizenor, Mankato; grandchildren: Bryan (Katie) Rabe, Brooke (Piet) Venter, & Tyler Rabe; Danielle (Pat) Ahner & Ryan Moeser; and Abby Vizenor; great-grandson, Dawson Ahner; brothers: Donald (Rita) Vizenor, Tecumseh, Oklahoma, Robert (Virginia) Vizenor, Shakopee, and John (Deb) Vizenor, Foley; sisters: Arlene Zulawski, Fremont, California, Beverly (Rich) Tkaczik, Aiken, LaVerne (Curt) Hansen, Inver Grove Heights, Rita (Leon) Mueller, Foley, and Mary Haffner, St. Cloud; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Alma; brother, Roger; and two infant brothers.

A Memorial Mass was held on Saturday, May 9th at 11 A.M. at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, St. Walburga Campus, 12020 Fletcher Lane, Rogers, with visitation starting at 9 A.M. Father Mark Moriarty officiated. The Honorary Bearers were: Scott Zachman, John Zahler, Bob Vizenor, Jack Vizenor, & Rich Tkaczik.
Burial was in St Martin’s Cemetery, Rogers with Elk River American Legion Post 112 performing military honors.
