Visitation Information
Janet R. “Jan” Halvorson, age 67, of Buffalo, Minnesota died Thursday, October 30th, 2008 at her residence.
She was born in Morris, Minnesota on May 6, 1941 the daughter of Robert & Lillian Jesness Stark.
Jan graduated from West Central School of Agriculture in Morris in 1959. She graduated from college and received a degree in Home Economics from The University of Minnesota-St. Paul Campus. Jan later also received her Master’s Degree from The University of Minnesota-St. Paul.
On June 6, 1964, Janet R. Stark and John S. Halvorson were joined in holy marriage at Bethel Lutheran Church in Hoffman, Minnesota. God blessed their marriage with three children.
She taught Home Economics for twenty years, mostly at Maple Lake High School.
Jan was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo. She was a former Sunday school teacher and a member of the Hand Bell Choir.
Family was huge to Jan! Her children and grandchildren and their activities were very important to her.
Through the years, as a loving wife, mother and grandmother, “Jan kept everyone going”.
Survived by loving husband: John S. Halvorson; children: Jason (Ellen) Halvorson of Buffalo, Juhl (Marla) Halvorson of Duluth and Jolyn Halvorson of Buffalo; grandchildren: Kaitlyn; John, Samuel, Mya and Leah Halvorson; a brother: LeRoy Stark of Kensington; a sister: Phyllis (Robert) Ede of Forest Lake; many other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents: Robert & Lillian Stark, a step mother: Linda and by a sister-in-law: Charleen Stark.
A visitation was held on Tuesday, November 4th from 4-8 P.M. at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. A Prayer Service was held at 7:30 P.M.
A Memorial Service for Jan Halvorson was held on Wednesday, November 5th at 2:00 P.M. at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo. Reverend Dr. Lyle E. Rossing officiated. Private interment Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church Foundation or Wright County Community Health Foundation Hospice Trust Fund or to the Donor’s Choice.

To Jan’s family I am sorry to hear your lost. She my home ec class in Maple Lake high school when I was 7th and 8th grade also high school too and she was great teacher. I lost my mom in april and my dad 6 years ago. God bless you and family Mary jo Gapinski

I had Jan as a Teacher at Maple Lake High School. She was a good teacher in Home Ec
