James Roy Bergherr, age 79 of Albertville, Minnesota, passed away October 25, 2022.

He was born on December 7, 1942 in Morris, Minnesota to Roy and Viola (Lesmeister) Bergherr.

Upon his graduation from high school, he proudly enlisted to serve with the United States Army in 1960. He was honorably discharged in 1963 with the rank of Corporal and earned a Parachutist Badge.

On April 8, 1960 he was joined in marriage to Janet Darlene Eliason. Together they raised five children. They owned and operated Turtle River Wood Treating in Bemidji for over 33 years. Janet passed away in 1992.

In May of 2016, James met Marion Glampe, and the two were joined in marriage on January 21, 2017 in St. Michael.

James was a very active member of St. Michael Catholic Church. He was a member there for only a short amount of time, but made a big impact on other parishioners. He was devoted to his faith in God.

He was an avid golfer who had the right to boast hitting a hole in one. He was part of a golf league in Monticello for many years, and loved watching any kind of sporting event—especially the Vikings. He was once a season ticket holder and would take his family to many games.

James above all was a family man and cherished the time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved the big family Christmases get-together every year in Menahga which was a special occasion for the entire family. He was always one to participate in the late night Texas hold’em tournaments and although not a big drinker he would also partake the annual tippy-cup tournaments.  His kids and grandkids all admired his young spirit and his desire to stay active.  James made sure to attend as many sporting events his grandchildren took part in so he could cheer them on and encourage them. He was an honest, quiet, caring man with a dash of sarcasm and wit. He was an overall good guy.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Janet Bergherr; great-grandson, Mason Maternowsky; parents, Roy and Viola Bergherr; brothers, Jack and Joe Bergherr; and son-in-law, Sean Perillo.

James is survived by his wife, Marion (Glampe) Bergherr; children, Mike (Janet), Laurie Perillo, Dawn (Mike) Plasch, Lisa (Ed) Moren, and Shelly (Brian) Nelson; grandchildren, Brian (Amanda), Mathew (Jenna), Andrew (Abby), Wesley (Brandon), Jeffrey, Taylor, Ashley, Blake, Frank (Alicia), Madison, and Jake; great-grandchildren, Alexa, Marlee, Leah, Jessa, Emelia, Colin, Harper, Devin, Jacob, and Beau; sister, Judy (Jim) Spindler; and many other relatives and friends.

I was so sad to read Jim’s obituary today. I do not know any of the details and thought the complete obituary was a beautiful tribute to him. He and I were the closest in age of the Bergherr cousins, and I always felt a special connection to him. My heart and prayers are extended to his family. 🙏❤️
