James Rogers Bosard, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 24, 2016. He departed on the date of his late wife Betty’s birthday.
He was born on October 8, 1926, to Irene (VanHoof) and Ralph M. Bosard of Emerado, North Dakota. He grew up in Emerado, where his father owned and operated a lumberyard.
Rogers graduated from Emerado High School in 1944 and immediately joined the WWII effort at the tender age of 17. He proudly served the Nation within the branch of the Navy, upon the fleet oiler, the USS Navasota.
He and his former wife, Darline (Dolly) Sillerud, lost an infant son, Jeffery Rogers Bosard, in July 1949.
After the war, he attended a business college. Later during the 1950’s, he passed the boiler’s exam and settled into a position as a custodian within the Minneapolis Public Schools.
In 1959, he married widow Betty (Swanson) Schroeder.
In 1969, Rogers entered an AA based treatment center at St. Mary’s. He proceeded to sponsor many friends within the fellowship of AA and maintained sobriety for the remainder of his life.
Betty and Rogers resided in the Minneapolis area until purchasing a hobby farm near Buffalo, Minnesota, in 1975.
Rogers retired from Minneapolis Public Schools in 1988.
He was preceded in death by: his beloved wife of 44 years, Betty; his parents, Irene (VanHoof) and Ralph M. Bosard; his infant son, Jeffery Rogers; his brothers Roy and William Bosard and his sister, Rita and her husband, Loren Bergsrud.
He is survived by his step-son, Jerry (Marilyn) Schroeder; Grandchildren: Jennifer (David) Milless, Mark (Sheryl Foss) Schroeder; Great-Grandchildren: Ryan (Anna Trom) and Hayley Milless; Elise and Sydney Schroeder and Great-Great Granddaughter: Brooklynn Lorman.
He leaves behind sister-in-laws Shirley Bjork and Judy Bosard; treasured nieces and nephews: Scott Bosard & Abbey Bosard, Brenda Machacek, Sharon Wiescamp; Kent Bergsrud, Kim Steffen and Stacy Baldock; and Bill’s daughters: Kristy Ann and Jessica.
He will also be missed by incredible loyal friends Tiffany and Nathan Boeson, Jane Filek, Cathy Angell, Ron Lifson and numerous other dear farm friends from Buffalo and the Brooks Restaurant days; as well as countless friends from the various avenues and interests of his life.
He will most especially be missed for his consistent and steady approach to life and his dry, but witty sense of humor.
Our life journey paths crossed at Seward School in Minneapolis. We quickly became life long friends. You are a good man and you have a good heart. I will not forget you my friend. Yow will live on in me and my children. Journey well to the spirit world. Gigawabamin Niijii.
