James Kelly Cohen, age 53 of Albertville, passed away March 16, 2020.

He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on September 29, 1966 to James Carmouche and Charlotte Cohen. He grew up in North Minneapolis where he attended Patrick Henry High School. He later on moved to Buffalo, MN where he raised his family and called home.

His love of fishing opened up an opportunity for him to learn to build boats; he then started working as a manager for Warrior Boats in Maple Lake for 20 years, and then worked for Larson Boats as plant manager. His little piece of Heaven on Earth was at the cabin on Clear Lake,  in Watkins MN,  where he enjoyed fishing, water sports, bonfires, and making memories with family and friends. Jim loved his favorite fishing spot on Red Lake where he caught most of his trophy mounts that hung up proudly on the wall.

Jim really enjoyed watching any kind of sport, especially football (he was a true Vikings fan) golf, and boxing. He was a true outdoorsman, great cook, liked to watch movies, and listen to KFAN Radio. Jim’s fun sense of humor and strong-willed personality will be missed by all who knew him.

Jim will be remembered as a hard worker, great father, good friend and a wonderful man. His family always meant the most to him.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Alice and Noah Palmer; and cousin, Trevor Swartout.

Jim is survived by his children, Trevor (Abby), Jasmine,  James, Jr., Cohen; Jadelyn Haugan, Shinieka Bratton, Brittany Cohen. Grandchild, Kierra Cohen.

Mother, Charlotte (Gary) Bock; Sisters, Tonetta (Bob) Hardekopf and April (Mark) Janes; Girlfriend, Jolene Archer; Gladys Polzel and many other relatives and friends.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, March 21, 2020 at 11:00 AM, with visitation one hour prior, at The Peterson Chapel in St. Michael, MN.

Lunch to follow at Trevor and Abbys house.

Serving the family is The Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home. 763-497-5362. www.thepetersonchapel.com

Dad when I met you 11years ago you immediately accepted me and treated as one of your own. I have so many memories of you and Bobbie and Jas,Trevor and Jade. When James Jr and I call to tell you that you was about to be a grandpa your reaction was priceless. I think Keiera was 2 and you was trying to teach her how to play golf in the backyard we laugh so hard the club was bigger than her.I have so much to say but this hurts so bad the last time I seen you we was suppose to play spades ♠.I still owe you a game …until we meet again thank you for accepting me as your daughter I will always love you for that!!! You will always be in my heart.Rest in Love 💘

I was very close friends with Tonetta growing up and always thought of James as the little brother I never had. Lost touch with the family when we moved outta Northside, but reunited at her 50th birthday party. He seemed very happy to see me, giving hugs and was very proud to tell me of his family, kids and grandkids. I know he loved you all very much and I’m glad to have been part of his life, even the very small part it was. He’ll live on in our hearts and memories forever

I was friends with Jasmine as a child and my parents knew James, I remember meeting at the golf course in Buffalo to go sledding during the winter many times.

My condolences to Charlotte, April and the family. What I know of “Kelly” goes back to 1981-82, we were just stupid kids then and he was completely different from the obituary I just read. I’m very glad to hear he had a good life.
