Visitation Information

Jack Frost, age 83 of Buffalo, formerly of Sturgis, South Dakota, died Sunday, December 7th 2008 at Lake Ridge Care Center in Buffalo, Minnesota.

He was born on December 11, 1924 in Galatea, Colorado, the son of Roy William and Lola (Almond) Frost. He was baptized on May 14, 1933 at the Christian Church in Eads, Colorado. He grew up on a farm near Eads where he attended elementary school. At age 16 he moved to Grand Island Nebraska and worked for the railroad. He met and married Mennie Higby in Aurora, Nebraska. They traveled the central states working for a construction company that built airplane hangers and eventually settled near Sturgis, SD. Jack worked as a farmer/rancher, moved into Sturgis and worked at Dickson Sawmill as a sawyer and later as mill foreman, and eventually became mill superintendent at St. Regis Sawmill in Whitewood, S.D. He retired in 1984.

His first wife, Mennie, died in 1973. Jack married Beverly (Ricard) Skinner on February 14, 1974. Marriage to Bev added 5 stepchildren and Bev’s parents to Jack’s family. His family’s welfare was always Jack’s concern. After Beverly retired from Meade County Register of Deeds in 1990 the couple enjoyed many trips and visits with family and friends.

Jack moved to Buffalo MN in 2002 to be near his family as he battled the many health challenges that came his way. Those challenges kept him from getting out and doing the things he loved most– hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, and doing building projects. He continued to be a source of advice for those who needed him and found enjoyment in watching sports on TV, playing cribbage, and keeping track of his family. Cancer was his final challenge. He spent his last week on this earth in the loving care of his family, friends, and the many kind and caring individuals in the Allina hospice program and at the Lake Ridge Care Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a baby sister lost at birth, Thelma Dean, two brothers, Randall and Robert, a sister, Shirley Johnson, wife, Mennie, wife, Bev, and two stepdaughters, Sandy Beard and Linda Hipps.

He is survived by stepchildren, Mary (Bob) Reed, Carol (Ron) Moore, Gary (Eileen) Skinner and grandchildren Jana Hipps, Carly Reed, Matthew Reed, Charlie Moore, Annie Moore, Zachary Skinner, Jeremy Jenny, Kayla Beard, Richie Frye, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation and memorial service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church Library in Buffalo on Wednesday, December 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 8 p.m.

Private interment at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery in Sturgis, SD at a later date.

The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo is serving the family.
