Ian Hunter Smith, age 20 of Hanover, passed away on April 12, 2018 at his residence.
Ian was born on October 2, 1997 in Norwich, CT the son of Del & Suzanne (Harvey) Smith.
Ian attended and graduated from Buffalo Senior High School in 2016. He played football for Buffalo from middle school all the way through his senior year along with running track and playing tennis. He was a ferocious reader from an early age reading well beyond his grade level. He also enjoyed music and video games.
Ian attended Buffalo United Methodist Church going on all of the youth group mission trips. Ian loved the trips and loved serving the people of Kentucky, St. Louis, North Dakota and STORM Camp in Minneapolis.
Ian was an avid collector of knives and other medieval weapons including his prized possession of a six foot battle axe.
His favorite time was the time that he spent with his family. Ian loved the family vacations, going camping, going to the farm and going to the ocean.
Ian is survived by his parents Del & Suzanne Smith; siblings Savannah (fiancé Andrew Marino) and Madison; fiancé Sammi Hill, maternal grandparents Bill & Brenda Harvey of Summerville SC; paternal grandparents Harry Smith of Charlotte MI and Marlene Smith of Apache Junction AZ; also many other relatives and friends.
Visitation for Ian was held on Tuesday, April 17 from 5-8 p.m. at the Buffalo United Methodist Church of Buffalo.
Funeral service was Wednesday, April 18 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation continuing one hour prior to the service all at the Buffalo United Methodist Church of Buffalo.
Officiating was Pastor Bill Reinhart.
Casket bearers were Steve Lichtenberg, Mike Knutson, Nick Johnson Joe O’Flanagan, Kyle Ewer, and Ben Weese.

Ian, Buddy……I am heartbroken. I found out today that you are no longer with us. As musch as I hated working two jobs, I always looked forward to the evenings we worked together at Menards. For someone so young, I was impressed by your work ethic. I will cherish the memories I have of us joking around making the day go by. Like everyone else is thinking to themselves, I wish I knew what you were going through. I would have helped you battle whatever demons were consuming you. I pray you have found peace and that your family and friends will too in time. Rest in peace my friend……
