Howard Kuns, age 90, of Maple Grove passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Rose Arbor-Memory Care Unit-Wild Flower Lodge in Maple Grove.
He was born on November 11, 1922
In Minneapolis the son of Oliver E. & Louetta Mae Frame Kuns.
He graduated from Robbinsdale High School in 1940.
Howard honorably served his Country in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II in both the Atlantic and Pacific.
On September 6, 1947, Howard Kuns and Vivian E. Kothrade were joined in holy marriage at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church-Corcoran. God blessed their marriage with three children.
Howard was a former general manager of The Eagle Drug Company. He retired in 1982.
He was a faithful member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maple Grove. Howard served his church through the years as congregational President, church secretary and financial secretary.
Howard enjoyed kidding and joking with people.
Survived by his loving wife of sixty five years: Vivian; children: Jim (Betsy) Kuns of Ramsey, Bev (Ron) Nordby of Shoreview and Lori (Dale) Keppel of Corcoran; grandchildren: Andy Kuns and fiancé Mandy, Jill (James) Blackwood, Sarah (Kelvin) Vaye, Carrie (Christopher) Madson, Emily & Anna Nordby, Nora (Connor) Lund and Spencer Keppel; six great grandchildren: Brenden, Michael & Dyllan, Marley, Sophie and Cooper; many other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, a brother: Robert, a sister: Verle and by his father-in-law & mother-in-law: Edwin & Eva Kothrade.
Funeral services for Howard Kuns will be held on Thursday, March 21st at 11:30 A.M. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maple Grove. Pastor Steven Briel will officiate.
Special music will be provided by Paul Kothrade.
Interment will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 20th from 4-7:30 AT THE CHURCH. Further visitation Thursday, March 21st one hour prior to services at the church.
Casket Bearers will be Grandsons: Andrew Kuns, Spencer Keppel, Nephews: David Berndt, Loren Kothrade, Gerald Koepp and Thomas Kothrade.
