Harlen DeWayne Frykholm (80) of Buffalo, Minnesota passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2012, at his residence with many family members by his side.
Harlen was born on February 12, 1932 in Buffalo, the son of Axel and Ruth (Johnson) Frykholm. He was baptized by Reverend Callerstrom and received his confirmation by Reverend Pearson.
Growing up, he resided on a farm by Dean Lake and went to school in Buffalo. He later moved to Minneapolis and worked for Ralston Purina Feed. On April 23, 1952 he was united in marriage to Marilla Marquette.
In September of 1952 he was drafted into the Army. He did his basic training in Fort Knox, Kentucky. In February he shipped out of Fort Louis, Washington for Korea where he was stationed in heavy artillery until the peace treaty was signed. He was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado upon returning to the United States where he was honorably discharged.
After returning to his home town of Buffalo, he worked driving truck for a road construction company until he started working for Delano Granite. From there he moved onto Neuman Plumbing, and then started working for Culligan. Due to a back injury he later became a sewing machine mechanic at Wonderalls until they closed their doors. Then he went to work for Butwin Manufacturing Company located in Litchfield, MN where they made jackets and on February 17, 1995 he retired from Butwin Manufacturing.
In 1960, he and his wife bought a 40-acre farm Southwest of the city of Buffalo where they raised their (6) children, two (2) sons and four (4) daughters. Harlen enjoyed fishing, hunting, and going to their lake home on Smith Lake in Osakis, MN. He was a man who loved to work with his hands, making many wood items for family members.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marilla (Marquette) Frykholm, his six (6) children: Douglas (Janice) Frykholm of Howard Lake, Diane (James) Berscheid of Buffalo, Shelly (Steven) Nelson of Annandale, Steven (Teresa) Frykholm of Buffalo, Treina (Robert) Richards of Buffalo, Tammy (Clayton) Prestidge of Waverly, his brother Ronald (Patricia) Frykholm of Deer Wood, his nephew David (Corby) and their son (Yuri) Frykholm of Texas.
He also is survived by ten (10) granddaughters: Tabatha (Brian) Borski, Candi Osberg (Erik Stumne), Angela Stenglein (James Ottenstroer), Jody (Kory) Schafer, Cari (Joshua) Erickson, Stephanie (Jesse) Korbel, Rachel Richards, Kayla Richards, Heather and Alyssa Prestidge, three (3) grandsons Jonathan Nelson (Crystal Logan-Friendshuh), Devon Prestidge and Lucas Frykholm, one (1) step-grandson, Jason Nelson, also seven (7) great-granddaughters, seven (7) great-grandsons and three (3) step-great grandchildren.
Harlen is preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Ruth Frykholm, four (4) grandsons (from birth), father and mother-in-law, Lester and Agnes Marquette, step father-in-law, Merle Triplett.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Peterson’s Chapel in Buffalo, MN from 5- 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Buffalo, MN August 24, 2012 , at 10 a.m. There will also be visitation one (1) hour prior to services and a luncheon will follow interment at St. John’s Church. Services officiated by Pastor James Disney
Pallbearers will be Harlen’s four (4) son-in-laws James Berscheid, Steven Nelson, Robert Richards, Clayton Prestidge and his two (2) grandson in-laws Brian Borski and Jesse Korbel.
Honorary pallbearers are his two (2) sons, Douglas and Steven Frykholm, three (3) grandsons, Jonathan Nelson, Devon Prestidge and Lucas Frykholm, and one step-grandson, Jason Nelson.
