Gregory John Hules, age 61 of Buffalo, MN passed away on January 18, 2012 after a long battle with Alpha -1 Antitrypsin Deficiency.

Born in Minneapolis, he graduated from St Louis Park High. He loved competitive sports especially hockey, football and golf. He enjoyed a good debate often taking an opposing viewpoint just to liven up the discussion.

Greg lived his life with passion and brought that passion to everything he touched. He provided crucial leadership to the Alpha One Foundation in its creation and as they grew. He set the example for Alpha’s everywhere for the importance in taking part in research and helping each other. Greg had the worst this disease can dish out. But not for one moment did he ever feel defeated, broken or without hope. In his words, that was due to the support of his family and the Alpha family worldwide who daily shared his experience. He truly believed that the journey was more important than the destination.

Preceded in death by his parents Conrad and RoseMary (Shaughnessy) Hules.

He is survived by his loving wife and soul mate: Sandi; sons : Nicholas (fiancée Emily Yurek ) Hules of Kimball and Steven Hules of Maple Grove; three brothers: Don (Patty) Hules of Mound, Gary (Michael Ann) Hules of Sparks, Nevada; and Joe (Louisa) Hules of Las Vegas; mother-in-law Patricia Perrozzi of Brooklyn Park; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Gino (Donna) Perrozzi of Otsego, Joe (Jane) Perrozzi of Anchorage, Alaska, Donna (Geneau) Perrozzi-Jensen of Shoreview, Rick Perrozzi (life partner Linda) of Moundsview and Gloria Perrozzi Ross of Brooklyn Park; further survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A visitation will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Buffalo, MN on Thursday February 2nd at 10 am, followed by a Mass at 11:00 a.m. Memorials to the Alpha -1 Foundation.

The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo is serving the family.

My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. It has been years since I have seen you and Greg but have fond memories of both of you. Greg’s life and dedication to Alpha will continue to help others and with that hopefully will be comforting to all of you.
