Visitation Information

Gordon Larson, age 82, of rural Annandale passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

He was born on January 10, 1927 in Middleville Township, Wright County, the son of Emil & Edith Johnson Larson. He was baptized on February 27, 1927. He was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith at Mount Hermon Lutheran Church in 1942.

Gordon graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1944. He later attended two years at The Minneapolis School of Music for voice. On November 18, 1950, Gordon Larson & Genevieve Carlson were joined in holy marriage at Mount Hermon Lutheran Church.

Gordon & Genevieve engaged in dairy farming for many years. Gordon was hard working and driven, but always took the time to show his quiet sense of humor. He could make farm chores and activities like picking rocks “family time” his children truly enjoyed. He took great pleasure in livening up family gatherings with recreational tractor and hayrack rides that took the bumpiest, muddiest routes possible. He was fond of keeping his grandchildren on their toes with give-and-take sessions of good-natured teasing on recurring topics.

He was a lifelong, faithful member of Mount Hermon Lutheran Church. He was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and was generous in sharing it when asked to sing solos at many Sunday morning worship services, weddings and funerals.

Survived by loving wife of fifty-nine years: Genevieve Y. Larson; children: James “Jim” Larson of Shoreview, Penny (Steve) Hinderaker of Minneapolis, Belinda Larson and Brian (Katy) Larson all of Howard Lake; eight grandchildren: SSGT Jacob (Carly) USAF, Emma & Maddie, Rachel & Mollie, Abby, Jack & Gabriel; a great grandchild: Benjamin; sisters: Lorraine (Don) Carlson of Hopkins, Norma (Carl) Carlson of Annandale; a brother: Dan (Joan) Larson of Bloomington; a sister-in-law: Lou Ann (Larson) Houlton of Elk River; brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law: Lawrence Carlson of Buffalo and Verona (Bernard) Broman of Plainfield, Indiana; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Gen, so sorry to hear of your loss. I attempted to go to the funeral, but I went to the wrong place. Melanie had sent the Peterson Chapel notice to Court Services with the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Howard Lake location for the funeral. I drove over there today and there was no one there. Came back and found out from Peterson Chapel about the change in location. Sorry I did not make it to the funeral. I tried. I will be putting a card from me and one from Mike in the mail. Again, I am so sorry to hear of your loss.
