Gordon “Gene” Jensen, age 81, of Buffalo passed away on Thursday, March 20th, 2014.

He was born on October 26, 1932 in Elkhorn, Iowa the son of Jens & Lazeta (Struthers) Jensen.

Gene was baptized on May 9, 1937 in Exira, Iowa.

He attended Exira Iowa School graduating in 1952.

On July 7, 1952 he enlisted in The United States Air Force and honorably served his Country for four years.

After the service Gene attended Body & Fender School in Omaha, Nebraska. After school he worked for the Ford Dealership in Audobon, Iowa.

In the summer of 1960, he moved to Buffalo and worked for the Peterson Dodge Dealership. Later he worked for United Hardware Corporation for twenty years.

Gene married Maxine Klatt Swanson in 1965 along with her three children: Connie, Greg and Gary and to this union one son Scott was born.

He joined St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo in 1966 and was confirmed by Pastor E.R. Berwald. He has been a faithful member, served as trustee, served on the building board and usher for several years.

In 1996, Gene and his wife Maxine bought and ran Michels Bait Shop. After retiring he worked part time for the local car dealers as a car jockey.

Gene was a life member of the Buffalo American Legion for fifty eight years serving as Commander for five years, being Sargent of Arms for many years. He also was life member of Disabled American Legion and member of 40/8 Ritchel Team. Gene also served in the Buffalo Food Shelf for fourteen years and two of those years as chairman.

Gene’s family thanks everyone for all of the prayers, visits and concerns during his illness.

Survived by his wife Maxine of forty eight years; son: Scott Jensen; step daughter: Connie (Lyn) Leffew; step son: Gary (Joanne) Swanson; two grandchildren: Dustin Swanson and Sonya (Brandon) Lamp; a great grandchild: Carter; a brother: Charles Jensen of Buffalo; sisters: Wanda (Ted) Wiesmann of Sioux City, Iowa and Christy (John) Peterson of Janesville, Wisconsin; many other family and friends.

Preceded in death by an infant brother: Donald Jensen, his parents: Jens & Lazeta Jensen and by a step son: Greg Swanson.

Funeral services for Gordon “Gene” Jensen will be held on Tuesday, March 25th at 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran in Buffalo. Pastor Philip Meyer and Pastor Roger Klemz will officiate.

Interment with military rites Pelican Lake Methodist Cemetery rural Buffalo.

A visitation will be held on Monday, March 24th from 4-7 P.M. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Further visitation will be held on Tuesday morning, March 25th at the church beginning at 9:00 A.M.

    My heart goes out to you. In the last 20 years, Gordon seemed to push me into the many things that I enjoyed doing with him at the Legion. He has been my very special good friend. I will never forget him.
