Gladys Saewert, age 96 of rural Delano, died Monday, June 15, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Delano.
On June 8, 1913 Gladys Viola Ziebarth was born to Albert and Effie (nee Prestidge) Ziebarth in Delano. On May 7, 1932 Gladys married William Saewert (of Iowa) in Minneapolis. They farmed together in Iowa for some time before coming to Delano to operate the Ziebarth family farm. Gladys was active in the local Buffalo Farmers Union, acting as secretary, until they sold the farm in 1968. She was a charter member of the Rockford Township Senior Center and volunteered for many years at the Delano Senior Center. Gladys enjoyed snowmobiling and was a member of the Delano Sno’ Ramblers. A longtime member of United Presbyterian Church in Rockford, Gladys also enjoyed fishing, gardening, and traveling.
Gladys Saewert is survived by her daughter, Judith Saewert, rural Delano; brother, Lloyd Ziebarth, Mesa, Arizona; niece, Peggy Ziebarth; and nephew, Donald Jensen. She was preceded in death by her husband, William in 1975; son, Charles in 1969; and sisters, Evelyn Jensen and Margaret Parent.
Funeral services are 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 18, 2009 at United Presbyterian Church in Rockford. Pastor Richard Newswanger will officiate. The congregation will sing Amazing Grace and How Great Thou Art. Kaitlyn Kavanaugh will be the organist and Gail Sinkel will sing In The Garden and Precious Lord. Casket bearers are: Elmer and Christopher Abbas, Scott Kraunzer, Dennis Iverson, Jason Dreger, and Ryan Kral. Arnold Kral & Dave Compton are Honorary bearers. Burial is in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 P.M. on Wednesday at The Peterson Chapel – Buffalo Funeral Home and resumes at church one hour before the funeral.
