Gertrude Behrens, 103 of Buffalo, MN, formerly of Sibley, IA, died May 16, 2018 at Park View Care Center in Buffalo, MN.
Funeral services, under the direction of Jurrens Funeral Home, Sibley, IA, will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley, IA on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, Pastor Barb Kopperud officiating. Visitation will be one hour preceding the service.
Gertrude was born January 15, 1915 in Lyon County, Iowa. She was the daughter of John and Ora (DeBerg) Harms. She lived in the Little Rock, Iowa area until 1926 when following death of her mother, she went to live with Clarence and Thelma Snow in Viola Township, Iowa. She attended Viola #2 School and lived with the Snows until her marriage to Ekke Behrens on September 23, 1934. Ekke and Gert had two daughters, Phyllis and Audrey. Ekke died in 1977 and Gert later moved to Buffalo, MN to be closer to her daughters and their families.
Gertrude experienced much loss during her long life; she was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, John Harms and his wife, Lavonne; foster parents, Clarence and Thelma Snow; her foster brother, Morris Snow and his wife Marge; her daughters, Phyllis and husband, Gordon Siemers, and Audrey Bacik.
She was sustained by her strong faith and the love of her many friends and family. Gertrude was a member of the Priscilla Circle at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley, IA and Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo, MN.
She is survived by her son-in-law, Leo Bacik and special friend, Anne DeWolf; grandchildren-Jerri (Larry) Hoose, Jeff (Chris) Siemers, Jodi (LeRoy) Hull, Roxie (Mike) Otten, and Joe (Jennifer) Bacik; 8 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She will be missed by all the many people whose lives she touched.
There will also be a memorial service in the Chapel at Parkview Care Center in Buffalo, on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 11:00 AM.
