Genevieve J. Kohnen, age 88, of Albertville and formerly of St. Michael and Greenfield passed away Thursday, November 7, 2013 at her home.
She was born on May 29, 1925 in Greenwood Township, Hennepin County, the daughter of Oscar and Alma Sieloff Sipe. Her childhood was spent on the same dairy farm where she would live as a farmer’s wife.
On April 28, 1945, Lloyd E. Kohnen and Genevieve J. Sipe were joined in holy marriage at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenwood, MN. God blessed their marriage with four children.
Until her death, she was a faithful member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her children: Ronald (Sharon) Kohnen of Loretto, Karen (Rodger) Marschel of Buffalo, Nancy (Gary) Korpi of New Hope and Susan (Richard) Kurth of Elk River; grandchildren Matt (Cathy) Kohnen, Emily (Jeremy Smith) Kurth, Jeff (Stephanie) Kohnen, Amy Kurth (Brent) Steinke, Stacy Korpi (Peter) Thorpe, Sara Kohnen (Paul) Bacon, and Zachary (Crysta) Kurth; eleven great grandchildren; three sisters Isabel Beyer, Bernadine (Ed) Beyer, Betty (Norby) Muehlbauer; brother-in-law Elton (Darlene) Kohnen; sisters-in-law Lucille Theis and Agnes Kohnen; other relatives and friends.
Gen was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Kohnen in January 2013, parents Oscar and Alma Sipe, three brothers Kenneth, Warren, and Clifford Sipe and grandson Thomas Marschel.
Special thanks to Kimberly and Susan, Gen’s caregivers who were with her for the past year.
Funeral services for Genevieve Kohnen will be held on Monday, November 11, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield, MN.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2013 from 3-6 P.M. at the church. A prayer service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Further visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.
Honorary Casket Bearers will be Rodger Marschel, Gary Korpi, and Richard Kurth.
Casket Bearers will be Matt Kohnen, Thomas Marschel represented by Willie Kohnen, Emily Kurth represented by Paul Bacon, Jeff Kohnen, Amy Kurth Steinke, Stacy Korpi Thorpe, Sara Kohnen Bacon, and Zachary Kurth.
The Peterson Chapel, St. Michael/Albertville, MN assisted the family with arrangements.
Dear Kohnen Family: I am sorry to hear about the loss of your Mom. She certainly was a very special lady.
