He was born on August 6, 1943 in Mankato, Minnesota to Woodrow and Elnora (Olson) Megaw. He grew up in Good Thunder, Minnesota and attended high school there. He was a graduate with the class of 1961.

Gary was drafted to serve in the United States Army. He was inducted in March of 1965 and was honorably discharged in March of 1967 with a SP5 (T) rank.

On July 25, 1970 he was joined in marriage to RaVae Hiller in Waconia, Minnesota. Together they raised three children: Monte, Hanni, and Ryan. Gary and his family resided in Montrose before making their forever home in Buffalo, MN.

Gary was employed with Hennepin County in road maintenance, he retired after 31 years. As a person who always needed to be doing something, he continually found ways to work after his retirement. He owned GT Auto Sales, worked at Nord Excavating for 4 years, and worked for his good friends Gene and Brad Hayes, driving gravel truck for 9 years.  He officially retired 2 years ago. He loved to stay active and busy.

In his spare time, Gary enjoyed anything car and racing related. He went to drag races, watched NASCAR, and motocross.  He had a great vegetable garden.  He spent much of his time, however, being his grandchildren’s biggest supporter for all their school and sporting activities. Being a papa was the best title he had; he was always there to watch them grow.  He especially enjoyed taking them on golf cart and scooter rides.

Gary was known for his quiet and easy-going personality. He had a kind and generous soul; he was a person that you could always count on. He never asked for anything in return and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was reliable, hardworking, and always made time for family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Elnora; brothers, Don and Kenneth, sister-in law Judy; and parents-in-law, Walter and Violet Hiller, brothers-in-law Conley and Jim Hiller, and sister-in-law Margaret Hiller.

He is survived by his loving wife, RaVae; children, Monte (Hally), Hanni (Kurt) Lommel, and Ryan (Valerie); grandchildren, Clay, Haley, Samuel, Nicholas, Emmit, Owen, Ian, Colin, Gavin, and Jayden; sister-in-law, Karen Megaw, brother-in-law Monte Hiller, and sister-in-law Flossy Hiller; Willie the cat; and many other relatives and friends.
