Gail J Bakeberg, age 63, of Maple Lake passed away July 16, 2018 after a ten year battle with Multiple Myeloma. Gail was born in Hollywood Township, MN on July 25, 1954 to Edmund and Erma Kubasch. She was baptized on August 15, 1954 and confirmed on May 19, 1968.
Gail will be deeply missed by everyone, especially her grandchildren. She loved to spend time with them playing games and baking cookies. She even extended her love of bingo to the friends of her grandchildren. Gail enjoyed watching their activities and spoiling them with sweets. She also enjoyed saying nightly prayers during sleepovers and always ended the prayer with “God bless Grandma Gail ‘cuz she is the best” which made them giggle. Her humor and wit will live with us forever.
Gail and Scott enjoyed traveling together. Over the years they attended Golden Gopher bowl games in Tennessee, Texas and Arizona. They also went to Las Vegas to see a Cher concert and toured Bourbon Street in New Orleans. They were also invited to Boston by Sun Life Financial to talk at their corporate meeting.
She is preceded in death by her parents Edmund and Erma Kubasch and sister-in-law Arla Kubasch.
Gail is survived by Scott Berning of Maple Lake; sons, Randy (Melissa) Bakeberg of Maple Grove, Rob (Melissa) Bakeberg of Otsego and grandchildren Carter, Cooper, Ava, and Adaleyne; brother Jim of Hollywood Township, Rollin (Carol) Kubasch of Hutchinson and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at St John’s Lutheran Church in Hollywood Township, New Germany MN on July 21, 2018. Visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with the service starting at 11:00 AM.
At Gail’s request, her body will be donated to the University of Minnesota Medical Center for the advancement of science. In lieu of flowers or cards, donations can be sent to Gift of Life Transplant House, 705 Second Street SW, Rochester, MN 55902.

I WILL MISS MY FRIEND, IT WAS USUALLY SAID IN EARLIER YEARS “IF YOU SAW GAIL, RENEE WASN’T FAR BEHIND AND ALSO THE SAME THE OTHER WAY. SHE WAS ALWAYS UP BEAT WHEN I CALLED HER. GAIL WILL BE MISSED.
Rob and Rand, I was really surprised to learn of your mother’s passing. I will always remember her sharp wit and good sense of humor. You and your family remain in our thoughts and prayers.
Robbie, Randy and families, may God hold you all close in his healing hands at this difficult time. Your mom was such a bright light, working with her in HL was always fun. She was always in good humor and lightened the daily stress. She will be missed but the great memories you have will help to fill the void. I can still hear her laugh, and yell at your ball games until her voice was hoarse. Praying for you and thinking of you all.
