Evangeline Doris “Babe” Durand, age 97, of Buffalo passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at her home.

She was born on March 28, 1916 in Buffalo, MN the daughter of Carl and Alphina (Swenson) Anderson. She lived in and loved Buffalo for her entire lifetime.

On February 7th, 1948 she married James “Bud” Durand and their loving marriage lasted for 58 years. Bud passed away on March 8th, 2006. They were blessed with three sons, Dennis, Donald and Douglas.

Babe was a loving mother whose greatest joy was raising her family. She enjoyed cooking and baking and being a housewife. She enjoyed her time at the family cabin in northern Minnesota where she loved boating and fishing, and her fondest memories were of the family gatherings of her siblings and their children there. She was a member of the 1932 Buffalo High School state basketball team along with her sister Honey. Babe was an athletic person who loved the outdoors! She was a member of the Buffalo Heights Golf Club where she golfed well into her 80’s. She also enjoyed painting and drawing which she did up until her passing. Babe was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her children Dennis (Vicki) of Grand Rapids, MN, Donald (Stephanie) of Buffalo, MN, and Douglas (Patty) of Williamsport, PA. Her grandchildren and step-grandchildren include Nichole (Ben) Edwards, Jamie (Mike) Haagenson, Todd (Jodi) Janecke, Shelly (Brad) Bowers, Ben Durand, Bart (Mary) Durand, Valerie (Rudy) Kovachevich, Jack Durand, and Wilson Durand and Brooks Durand. She was also greatly blessed with 10 great-grandchildren. Graham Edwards (born on Babe’s 94th birthday), Abigayle Edwards (Nicole and Ben), Mila Kovachevich (Val and Rudy), Ingrid Durand, Reuben Durand (Bart and Mary), and great step grandchildren Jake Bowers, Luke Bowers, Jessica Bowers, Madison Janecke and Grace Janecke.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings Ellen, Effie, Ernest, Emory, Edgar, Ethel, Edmond “Swede”, and Eloise “Honey”.

Urn Bearers will be all of Babe’s grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Babe Durand will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo at 11:00 AM. Pastor Ted Vanderpan will officiate.

Visitation will be held beginning at 10:00 AM at the church.

Interment at Swedish Mission Cemetery.

The Peterson Chapel, Buffalo, assisted the family with arrangements.

    Babe was a great gal. I got to know her, Bud and Honey back in 2001 at morning coffee at Cub. We had a lot of laughs and good conversation. I wish I would have bumped into her one last time though! She will be missed.
