Esther M. Parsons, age 96 of Albertville, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2019. She was born July 28, 1923 in Minneapolis, the daughter of Edward and Olga (Ensrud) Bakke.
Esther was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Minneapolis.
Esther graduated from Robbinsdale High School with the class of 1941. After high school, she attended Minnesota School of Business.
In Esther’s younger years, she modeled stockings in New York City, and she packaged weapons during WWII.
She worked as a switchboard operator and later worked at Augsburg Publishing where she met her husband, Marshall Parsons.
On June 28, 1952, Esther Bakke and Marshall Parsons were united in marriage at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. They were blessed with two daughters, Teresa and Leeann. Esther and Bud first lived in Minneapolis when newly married and later established their family home in Golden Valley, retired to their cabin in Hackensack, MN and then later moved to Albertville.
Esther was a former Girl Scout leader, part of the prayer chain at Word of Peace Lutheran Church, Ladies Auxiliary member in Robbinsdale and Hackensack, member of the USS Essex CV-9 reunion group, and Co-Op member in Hackensack.
She LOVED cats! Also enjoyed sewing and making homemade clothing for her family, dancing, canning veggies & fruits, nature, camping, traveling, attending church, her friends and meeting up with her ladies’ lunch group. She was a fabulous cook and awesome hostess!
She is preceded in death by her husband, Marshall “Bud” Parsons; parents, Edward and Olga Bakke; brother, Orville Bakke; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Bakke, Marjorie Yungner; brothers-in-law, Goodwin Alarik, Gene Kampff; and nephew, Rick Yungner.
Esther is survived by her daughters, Teresa Jefferson, Leeann (Nathan) Langlie; grandchildren, Marissa Langlie, Ryan Langlie; sister-in-law, Jean “Bonnie” Kampff; nieces and nephews, Diane (Joe) Kiem, Kim Yungner, Paul (Sara) Yungner, Holly (Bill) Combs, Mark (Darlene) Alarik, Bradlee Bakke, Russell (Kristine) Bakke; great-nieces, Kellie Bakke, Allison Bakke; and other family and friends.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at 10:00 AM, with visitation one hour prior, at Word of Peace Lutheran Church, 21705 129th Ave N, Rogers, MN. Burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Word of Peace Lutheran Church in Rogers.
