Erwin John Arens, age 89, of rural Buffalo and formerly of Loretto passed away on Sunday, March 30th, 2014.
He was born on October 13, 1924 in Loretto the son of Otto & Della (Weisman) Arens.
Erwin honorably served his Country in The United States Army.
As a young man, he worked on many farms. In 1938 at the age of fourteen, Erwin began hauling milk in cans with his father Otto to Cloverleaf Creamery (now Kemps). For the next sixty-three years, he continued Arens Milk Line hauling to many area creameries. Erwin retired when he was seventy-seven years old.
He was a faithful, lifelong member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Loretto. Erwin also was a past treasurer and longtime member of The Catholic Aid.
He formerly belonged to The Loretto Volunteer Fire Department, The Knights of Columbus and Lions Club.
Erwin was an avid card player,loved to polka dance when younger, enjoyed bowling and fishing trips.
Survived by his children: Carol Heins and family: Brian (Namie) and Jane (Ryan Cole); Janet (John) Lyrek and family: Troy and Jason; Joyce (Ken) Nyberg and family: Erica Nyberg, Rebekah (Justin) Martyn and Kari (Eric) Brandt; Connie (Ron) Dahl and family: April (Mike) Debner, Jenny (Ben) Cionca, Krissy Dahl (Bruce) and Bill Dahl; Debbie Arens and family: Terri and Kelsey; Bruce (Connie) Arens and family: Diana (Luke) Benson, Jeff (Jenna) and Dan (Kayla) Arens; Donna (Brian) Doboszenski and family: Jacque Wallin, Brianna Doboszenski (Steven Kiphuth), Brittany and Adam; Laurie Arens; twenty four great grandchildren; sisters and brothers: Doris Baer, Elaine Roy, Gerry Arens and Tom Arens; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, many other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his loving wife: Louise (nee Schommer), his parents, a son-in-law: Les Heins, a grandson-in-law: Erik Wallin, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Erwin Arens will be held on Saturday, April 5th, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Loretto.
Interment at the church cemetery.
A visitation will be held AT THE CHURCH on Saturday, April 5th from 9:00 A.M. until time of Mass.
Honorary Casket Bearer will be Brian Heins.
Casket Bearers will be Troy and Jason Lyrek, Bill Dahl, Jeff and Dan Arens and Adam Doboszenski.

I can still see him bouncing up and down on his pneumatic driver’s seat with a big’ol grin on his face. Smiling so big you’d think he didn’t have any teeth. And what a distinct laugh he had, he could brighten any room.
