Ervin Halbert Vergin, age 89 of Rockford, MN passed away at Lakeridge Care Center, Buffalo, MN on Saturday, February 1, 2014. Funeral service on Saturday, Feb 8, 2014 at Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rockford, MN at 1:00 PM. Visitation from 11-1 PM on Saturday also at the church. Interment Elmwood Cemetery, Rockford, MN.
Ervin was born on September 14, 1924 in Rockford Township, Wright County, MN to Gust & Laura (Rux) Vergin. He was baptized on October 5, 1924 by Rev. William J. Pankow at Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rockford, MN. Ervin was confirmed on August 8, 1937 by Rev. S. Baer at Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church. On September 20, 1947 he married Jean B. Sipe at the Methodist Church in Burschville, MN by Rev. Norman State. Following their marriage they lived & farmed on Ervin’s home farm. On April 16, 1999 they sold the farm & moved into a townhouse in Rockford, MN. Ervin farmed all his life & loved being in the outdoors. He was a lifelong member of Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed bowling, fishing & watching the Twins games.
Preceded in death by his parents, Gust & Laura Vergin; two brothers, Adolph & Edwin; five sisters, Viola Lange, Edna Loeffler, Eleanor Vergin Alice Sieloff & Erna Lieder.
Survived by his wife of 66 plus years, Jean Vergin of Rockford, MN; sons, Gaylin (Sharon) Vergin of Grand Ronde, OR., Paul (Cheryl) Vergin of Buffalo, MN, Leslie (Robin) Vergin of Meadowlands, MN; 7 grandchildren, Lyn, Al, Jeff Vergin, Carla, Carrie & Zachary Vergin & Megan Vergin; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren, 1 step-grandchild Amy & 2 step-great grandchildren; sister, Verna Lemmage
