Elroy N. Schirmers, age 90, of Hanover died Friday, December 28th, 2007 at The Monticello-Big Lake Nursing Home.
He was born on August 26, 1917 in Frankfort Township, Wright County the son of Adam & Anna Englert Schirmers.
Elroy grew up in Frankfort Township just west of Hanover.
On November 22, 1945, Elroy N. Schirmers & Ida Kay Scherber were joined in holy marriage. They were blessed with four beautiful children. A tragic farm accident claimed the life of their only daughter Susan in 1953.
Elroy had bought the farmstead in Hanover where they both lived until November of 2007.
He was a very hard worker, loved to dance, play cards and spend as much time with his grandchildren as he possibly could.
He will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends!
Survived by loving wife: Ida K. Kay Schirmers; children: Doug (Fran) Schirmers, Steve (Debbie) Schirmers and Jerry Schirmers; five grandchildren: Sunde, Nick, Keith (Annie), Kelli and Drew Schirmers; a brother: Harlan (Betsy) Schirmers; sisters: Bea (Bud) Engfer & Marlene Jones; a sister-in-law: Joanne Scherber; a brother-in-law: Anthony (Pat) Scherber; many nieces, nephews & friends.
Preceded in death by a daughter: Susan; parents: Adam & Anna Schirmers, mother-in-law & father-in-law: Ida & Anthony Scherber, sisters: Gladys Schirmers & Lenore (Wally) Vollbrecht and by a brother-in-law: Jim Scherber.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Elroy Schirmers was held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 3rd, 2008 at The Church of St. Albert in Albertville. Father Peter Richards was the Celebrant. Interment followed at St. Michael Cemetery.
A visitation was held from 4-7 P.M. Wednesday, January 2nd at The Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home. A Prayer Service was held at 7 P.M.
Honorary Casket Bearers were Andrea Schirmers (Annie) and Lily Schirmers.
Casket Bearers were Nick, Sunde, Brian, Keith, Kelli and Drew Schirmers.
