Elizabeth Cordelia “Betty” Meyer, age 96, of Buffalo and formerly of Monticello passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Parkview Care Center.

She was born on May 1, 1922 in Corcoran Township, Hennepin County the daughter of William E. & Rosa G. (Tessmer) Strehler.

Elizabeth was baptized on May 28, 1922 at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield. She was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith on April 14, 1935 at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church. Her confirmation memory verse was Jeremiah 31:3 The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee”.

On November 30, 1946 Elizabeth C. Strehler and Harry T. Meyer were joined in holy marriage at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church. God blessed their marriage with two sons.

She was a faithful member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield her entire life and gave her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren the greatest gift a parent can give: a Christian upbringing and strong faith in the Lord.

When Harry and Betty were first married, they lived with her parents on the farm and later moved to Rockford. In 1955, they purchased a home in Osseo and lived there until 1970 when they built a home on the Meyer farm in Corcoran. In 1989, they moved to a smaller home in Monticello, after Harry’s death in 2002, Betty drove a John Deere riding tractor to mow the lawn and clear the driveway of snow. Betty lived there until 2014, at which time she became a resident of Park View Care Center in Buffalo.
While living in Osseo, Betty worked at various schools throughout the Osseo School System as a food service aide. Later she cleaned homes. From 2002 to 2005, Betty worked as a “demo lady” in which she displayed various food and health products at Cub and Wal-Mart Stores. She regularly volunteered at the Wise Penny Thrift Store in Buffalo.

Betty’s family was very important to her, and there were many gatherings with her siblings, their spouses, and her nieces and nephews as well as Harry’s family members. Betty and Harry played cards with a card club for many years, and they enjoyed dancing and listening to polka and waltz music. Together they spent many hours lovingly caring for and playing with their five grandchildren when Kenny, Carol, Randy, and Marlene were at work. Cooking hearty meals and baking many sweet treats, especially chocolate chip cookies, apple pies, brownies, and cinnamon rolls was Betty’s way of showing love to her family. Talking on the phone was a hobby of hers, and she chatted with friends and family daily. Her most frequent conversations were with her sister, Arlene, with whom she had a very close bond.

Survived by her sons: Kenny (Carol) Meyer and Randy (Marlene) Meyer all of Buffalo; five grandchildren: Brittany (Grant) McFadden, Angela (Anthony) Pittman, Brady Meyer, Katy (Brandon) Olson and Keith Meyer and fiancé Alicia; great grandchildren: Elliott and Emilie Pittman, Greta and Grace McFadden, Blake and Kaleb Olson; a brother: Arnold (Gerane) Strehler of Albertville; a sister: Arlene Finke of Plymouth; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by her husband Harry T. Meyer on February 19, 2002, her parents, a brother: Elmer Strehler and sisters: Edna Lieder, Lorena Vollrath Georges and Hildegard Kohnen.

Funeral services for Elizabeth “Betty” Meyer will be held on Wednesday, July 18th, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield. Pastor Paul Schuler will officiate. Jan Nelson will be the organist for the funeral service. Interment will follow at Salem Lutheran Cemetery.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 18th AT THE CHURCH from 9:00 A.M. until time of services.

Casket Bearers will be the grandchildren Brittany McFadden, Angela Pittman, Brady Meyer, Katy Olson and Keith Meyer and her godchildren Jerry Vollrath, Cheryl Finke and Lorie Lohse.
