Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Holthaus was born on October 2, 1928 to Joseph John & Florence Ann (Cauley) Flaherty in Graceville, Minnesota.

She graduated with the Wheaton Class of 1946 and earned a Teacher Certificate from St. Cloud Normal Teacher College.

For several years she taught students in grades 1-8 at The Rockford Country School and Buffalo Mill Creek School.

On June 12, 1952 Betty married Charles Anthony Holthaus at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Princeton, Minnesota.

They raised a large family on a dairy farm outside of Monticello and were active in the community.

Betty was a Rural Youth Program member, South Prairie Club member and a Rocky Road Rambler 4-H Club adult leader for many years. She attended many activities and was a strong supporter of The Monticello Public Schools.

Betty was a long time member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church where she attended spiritual events, assisted at funerals, served on the Advisory Board and taught religion classes for over twenty five years. More recently, Charlie and Betty sold sweetcorn at local farmers markets.

She was an avid reader, traveler and loved to socialize.

In the early morning of Saturday, April 1, 2017, Betty, age 88 died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family.

She is survived by her husband of almost sixty five years, Charlie Holthaus; children, Ann (John) Mork, Rose (Rick) Mills, Patricia Holthaus, James (Sue) Holthaus, Paul Holthaus, Mary (George) Swift, Joseph (Janice) Holthaus, Gerald (Lisa) Holthaus, Daniel (Kathleen) Holthaus, Robert (Mineko) Holthaus and Donald Holthaus; 20 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister Mary Olson; several in-laws and cousins, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents Joe (1978), Florence (1976) and her brother John Joseph Flaherty (2001).

Thank you for your presence in the celebration of Betty’s life. We are grateful for your out pouring of friendship and love!

A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial for Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Holthaus will be held on Wednesday, April 5th, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Monticello. Concelebrants will be Father Tony VanderLoop and Father Tim Rudolphi. Interment will follow at St. Henry’s Cemetery.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 4th from 4-8 P.M. at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Monticello. A Prayer Service will be held at 4:00 P.M. and a Rosary will be recited at 8:00 P.M.

Further visitation will be held on Wednesday morning, April 5th from 9-10:00 A.M. at the church.

Casket Bearers will be her sons: Jim, Paul, Joe, Gerry, Dan, Robert and Donald Holthaus
