Eleanor Irene Salonek (nee Lyrek) age 87 of Buffalo and formerly of Montrose passed away on Monday, August 20, 2012 at The Annandale Care Center.
She was born on December 29, 1924 in rural Delano the daughter of Peter M. and Genevieve Theisen Lyrek.
On May 7, 1946, Eleanor I. Lyrek joined George J. Salonek of Montrose in Holy Matrimony at The Church of St. Mary of Czestochowa in rural Delano. God blessed their marriage with twelve children.
Eleanor and George engaged in dairy farming south of Montrose on The Hill “N” Dale Farm until 1987.
Eleanor was an auxiliary member of Wright County V.F.W. Post # 1901 in Montrose and through the years she served in various capacities in the auxiliary. Eleanor especially took pride in her sister members electing her as President. Over the years, with other Auxiliary members, she helped create many lap robes and other items.
As a member of St. Francis Xavier’s serving group she helped make quilts for the homeless distributed by Peoples Inc.
Survived by her loving children: Mark, Matt (Patty), Mary (Edward) Schmidt, Martha (Charles) Moy, George (Laura Teige), Michael (JoAnn), Monica (Douglas) Ruzicka, Muriel (Jeff) King, MaDonna (Dave) Robertson and Marguerite Salonek (DJ Chawla); many grandchildren,many great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her husband: George J.Salonek, sons: Peter and Myron Salonek, a grandchild: Justin Ruzicka, her parents: Peter M. & Genevieve Lyrek, brothers: Eddie & Clarence Lyrek and by a sister: Rose Hackenmueller.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Eleanor Salonek will be held on Thursday, August 23rd at 10:00 A.M. at The Church of St. Francis in Buffalo. Father David Hennen will be the Celebrant. Interment St. Mary of Czestochowa in rural Delano.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 22nd from 4-8 P.M. at the church.
The Peterson Chapel, Buffalo served the family.
Dear Martha, Chuck and family; May God’s peace surround and comfort all of you during this difficult time. I’m so very sorry for your loss.
