Visitation Information

Elaine M. Shogren, age 84 of Albertville, died Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at North Memorial Hospital.

Elaine Mary Heuring was born on July 6, 1924 in Elk River to Henry and Mary (nee Goeb) Heuring. Trained as a switchboard operator, Elaine first worked for Jenson Printing, then for Sterling Electric. In later years, she worked at Donaldson’s Department Store in downtown Minneapolis. On September 11, 1948, Elaine married the love of her life, Howard Shogren in Minneapolis. She remained a dedicated wife throughout his failing years. Earlier in his retirement they enjoyed wintering in Texas in the Mission area and summering at the Carefree Country Club in Big Lake. For five years, they were “full-timers” in their R.V. Aside from traveling, Elaine enjoyed her flower garden, golfing, cooking, square dancing, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. A deeply spiritual person, Elaine was a profound believer in the peace that can come through prayer.

Elaine Shogren is survived by son, Stephen (Colleen) Shogren, Eureka Springs, Arkansas; daughters: Janice (David) Swanson, Andover, and Geralyn (Peter) Lucht, Delano; sisters-in-law: Irene Finsveen, Minneapolis, and Kathryn Heuring, California; grandchildren: Lonnie (Jesse) Kirkendall, Scott (Jill Nocera) Swanson, Linnea Swanson, and Trent and Joe Lucht; and great-grandchildren: Jericka and Zander Kirkendall. A special thanks goes out to: Elaine’s “third daughter” Diane Heuring; and Doctors: Harold Londer and Susan Johnson; nurse Kate Sullivan; and the staff at North Memorial Hospital Hospice. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 58 years, Howard; son, Daniel; siblings: Carl, Imogene, Mervyn, Martha, and stillborn infant Francis.

The Funeral Mass was 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 15, 2008 at St Albert Catholic Church in Albertville, Father Peter Richards acting as Celebrant. The visitation took place at church, one hour before the funeral. Elaine’s grandchildren served as casket bearers. The burial is private at Gethsemane Cemetery in New Hope. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers. Online condolences may be made at: www.thepetersonchapel.com
