Edward Russell Kath, age 37, died March 5, 2014 in Buffalo, surrounded by his family after a year-long battle with cancer.

He was born in Buffalo, Minnesota on August 24, 1976 to Jim and Mary Ann Kath. His youth was spent playing with his seven siblings, fishing with his dad, and playing several sports. Eddy graduated from Buffalo High School in 1994 where he was captain of the wrestling team.

No matter the job he held or city in which he resided, Ed influenced those around him with his positivity and easygoing attitude. He touched the lives of children at Kid’s Haven Childcare in Buffalo and Here Comes the Sun Childcare in Hermantown. Eddy was the favorite bartender to patrons in Buffalo, Annandale, South Haven, and most recently, Grandma’s Restaurant in Duluth.

Ed loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, and spending time with his many friends. Above all, Ed adored his son, Ahnyx. He was never happier than when they were together and loved him more than anything in the world.

Ed is survived by his son Ahnyx and his mother Alysia Tessling; parents Jim and Mary Ann Kath; siblings Mike (Melody), Vicky, Nick (Wanda), Shelly (Joe) Wright, Susie (Keith) Lommel, Jim (Sarah), and Rusty (Angie); many nephews, nieces, and cousins; and countless friends including Darren and Abby Tazelaar who graciously opened their home to Ed in his final weeks, and Rita Karypis who was by his side for much of his final journey.

He was preceded in death by grandparents Edward and Anna Kath; and Russell and Maxine Leraas.

Mass of Christian Burial for Edward Kath was held on Monday, March 10, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Buffalo.

Visitation was held on Sunday, March 9, 2014 from 4-8 PM at the church. A prayer service was held at 7:00 PM.

Interment at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Buffalo, MN

Casket Bearers were Mike Kath, Jim Kath, Rusty Kath, Ahnyx Kath, Darren Tazelaar, Joe Wright and Keith Lommel.

It’s surreal. I can’t believe this vibrant man who was just here is no longer with us! He was JUST HERE! Now he’s happy and thriving in Heaven, dancing with those we all love and will once again see. You are so missed Eddy–my kids and I still wear your bracelets. We love you!

I know Eddy will be waiting for me to rack ’em up and play some pool when we meet again. He was a true brother to me. I’m glad for the good times we had.

Sending hugs and love to all of you. I didn’t know Eddy in person but loved the man I came to know through Shelly’s Facebook posts and the things I heard about him. What an incredible person you were all blessed with in Eddy…though it was for far too short a time. Heaven became an even more beautiful place the day Eddy went there and someday you will be together again.
