Edith Louise “Edie” Schmidt, age 88 of Delano. Her love, acceptance and kindness to all those she came in contact with were her greatest attributes. She was dedicated to the Catholic Church and worked tirelessly for Pro-Life. Born in Loretto on February 24, 1928. Died February 10, 2017. Survived by thirteen children: Ronald (Rene), Renee (Larry) Jordan, Roy, Randy (Cheryl), Rebecca (Steve) Neumann, Rick (Deb), Rodger (Sandra), Ruth (Kevin) Isaacson, Russell (Mary), Robert, Ralph, Rosemary (Linda) and Ramona (Karen), 37 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren and brother Roy (Rosie) Spurzem, brothers-in-law Roger Schmidt, Gordy (Katie) Schmidt, sisters-in-law Oreta (Howie) Gray, Ival Fleming; many other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by loving husband of 69 years Hugh O. “Sonny” Schmidt, daughter Rachelle, grandson Donald, parents Hubert and Helen Spurzem, brother Donald, sisters Marguerite Oeffling and Ethel Schmidt. She leaves behind a legacy of commitment to family, church and community. She was an active volunteer at SS Peter and Paul Church and School in Loretto, Cancer Society, American Legion Auxiliary, Historical Stork House and many other church and civic activities. She was President of the Northwest Deanery and Woman of the Year for the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women. She wrote plays for 4-H and family parties, taught her children how to fish on Spurzem Lake and attended any sporting event she could. Her 14R newsletter gave updates on all the activites of her family. Later in life her passions were singing with the Delano Senior Group, playing bridge, driving other senior citizens to doctor appointments and visiting, always visiting older friends and relatives. Her family adored her and will miss her sweet, cute sense of humor. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 am, Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at St Peter Catholic Church, Delano. Visitation in Martha’s Hall on Tuesday, February 14 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am prior to Mass. Rosary recited at 8:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Pro-Life Organizations preferred.

    I just heard about Edith dying.She was one of out Past President Parley Presidents and I am so sorry that I did not make it.She was a very nice lady and was very well liked and a very busy lady.Now she is in heaven with her dear Hugh.Again I am so sorry to hear about Edith.Our prayers and thoughts are with your family at this time.Past President Parley President Linda Wehr
