Visitation Information

Donna Mae Fertig, 75, of Buffalo died peacefully with her family by her side on November 20th, 2007 after a long battle with several health issues.

Donna Mae was born to John and Elma (nee Skold) Holmgren on August 9th, 1932 in Hallock, Minnesota. She grew up and graduated from high school in Lake Bronson, Minnesota. After graduation, Donna went to college in Grand Forks. She graduated from nursing school, and also received her degree in teaching. She began her teaching career in Long Prairie, Minnesota but shortly after found herself teaching in St. Cloud. While there, Donna Mae found that others from her home town had also made their way south.

Donna was united in marriage to Sheldon Ellis Fertig, also of Lake Bronson on March 7th, 1959. As a couple they moved to Buffalo to begin their family and to continue their teaching careers. They were blessed with four children. Donna Mae™s interests included flower and vegetable gardening, knitting, making sure everyone in the family had her slippers, sewing, ceramics, making gifts for others, baking and spending time with family and friends. Donna loved the outdoors and spent as much time as possible outside. She loved the time spent at her parents cabin or at the lake, back home in Lake Bronson. She was an avid bird and squirrel watcher, always making sure they had plenty to eat. Donna loved her dog Buffy and even found a soft spot for that darn cat. She always found time to listen, had a heart of gold and with a sparkle in her eye, was a prankster, always making others laugh. She was a long time member of Zion Lutheran Church. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents: John and Elma Holmgren and by her sister, Betty Ann Shablow.

Donna is survived by her husband: Sheldon Sr.; children: Sheldon (Sharon) Fertig II of Waverly, Clair (Char Keck) Fertig of Buffalo, Michele (Daryl) Cardinal of Monticello, and Jonay (Kevin) Krone of Monticello; grandchildren: Sheldon III, Shane (Kristina), Amanda, Ashley, Jeremy, Cammey, Devin and Jacob; great granddaughter: Jenaveve; nephews, nieces, and many good friends.

Visitation for Donna will be Monday, November 26th, 2007 at The Peterson Chapel of Buffalo from 5 to 8pm with a prayer service at 7:30pm.

Donna™s funeral service will be Tuesday, November 27th, 2007 at Zion Lutheran Church of Buffalo at 2pm with a 1 hour visitation prior to the start of the service. The pastor will be Becky Sogge.
