Dennis “Denny” Donovan Stoddard
Age 86 of St. Michael, formerly Miltona, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Unity Hospital in Fridley. He was born March 27, 1930 in Minneapolis, the son of Harker Byrd and Edna Irene (Larson) Stoddard.
Dennis had an active faith and shared his love for Jesus with others. He was confirmed in his faith at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in North Minneapolis and baptized in his faith at Elim Baptist Church in Anoka.
He is a 1948 graduate from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis. He then joined the United States Air Force obtaining the rank of Sargent. While in the Air Force, he served as military police in the Korean War. As a proud veteran, Denny was part of the Pine River Color Guard. He worked for Honeywell and was a heavey equipment operator for Hennepin County. In retirement, Denny was a tour bus driver.
On July 21, 1951, Dennis Stoddard and Audrey Gotzman, “The Bride”, were united in marriage at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in North Minneapolis. The two were blessed with five children.
Denny enjoyed cars, NASCAR, living at the lake, traveling, taking walks, and time spent with his family.
Preceded in death by his parents, Harker and Irene Stoddard and brother, Robert Stoddard.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Audrey Stoddard; children, Lynette (Jim) Kornmann, Denise (Randy) Martin, Gail (Craig) Culbreth, Greg (Betty) Stoddard, Randy (Debbie) Stoddard; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Merrille Stoddard; and other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at NorthRidge Fellowship in Rogers, MN. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Samaritan’s Purse.
Serving the family is The Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funearl Home.
I was so saddened to hear of Dennis’s passing in the Echo Press. He was such s great, funny man. I enjoyed getting to know him and the family as well. God bless you all during this hard time.
