December 12, 1933 – September 2, 2022

Dean E. Harris Sr. of St. Michael, Minnesota passed away on September 2, 2022 at the age of 88. He was a cherished husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, uncle, and brother. Dean was born to Eldon and Doris (Rogers) Harris on December 12, 1933 in Battle Creek, Michigan.

At the time of his death, Dean was married to Ramona (Zurawski) Harris; the love of his life. They spent 13 wonderful years traveling and enjoying life together.

As Dean’s health declined due to dementia, he and Ramona moved to Minnesota to be closer to family. Dean adored Ramona and was so thankful for the thoughtful, loving and compassionate care she gave him during his final years. We, his children; are forever grateful.

As a child, Dean attended Court School on North Avenue and graduated from Battle Creek Senior High School in 1951. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps., serving for three years. During his service he was stationed at Parris Island, South Carolina, and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was honorably discharged from the Marines with the rank of Sergeant. Dean returned to Battle Creek, Michigan and worked at the Eaton Corporation, Battle Creek Public Schools, and the Battle Creek Gas Co., where he retired after 35 years of service.

Dean married Kathleen (Wallace) Harris in 1953 and they were blessed with 4 children. The family enjoyed the outdoors and have cherished memories of boating on St. Mary’s Lake, snowmobiling, riding motorcycles, and many vacations in Northern Michigan, Canada and throughout the United States. Many hours were also spent volunteering at his children’s schools and attending school activities.

Dean had a passion for working on and restoring cars with his brothers. At one time, Dean owned three Edsel’s he was restoring. There was nothing that Dean couldn’t do; home remodeling, rebuilding engines and repairing other mechanical equipment just to name a few. Helping others brought him a great sense of pride and joy; it earned him the title of “The neighborhood repairman” wherever he lived.

Dean married Joan (DeBrock) Harris in 1978. Upon their retirement; winters were spent in Apache Junction, Arizona; summer months were spent traveling back to Michigan to visit family and explore the United States and Canada. There was even a trip to Belgium. It is safe to say Dean has visited every state at least once. He had a fascination with Alaska, where he traveled several times.

Dean is survived by his wife Ramona (Zurawski) Harris, his son Dean Ed Harris Jr., daughters Kelly (Dave) Brophy, and Karen (Bob) Jones, his brother Mark Harris, grandchildren Jason (Danielle) Jones, Kurtis (Jodi) Long, Trevor Jones, Dean Travis Harris, Joel Davis, Brittany (David) Lawson, Megan Brophy, Andrea Harris, Ben Brophy, and Jacob Harris; eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Dean is also survived by stepchildren, Paul Negri, Donna (Rick) Hoch, Steve Negri; Kris (Chris) Robinson, Jean (Tom) Caouette, Karen (Darrell) Johnson, Mike (Teri) Zurawski; many step grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Joan (DeBrock) Harris, daughter Krystal Davis, grandson Brandon Harris and brother Glen Harris.

A memorial service for Dean E. Harris Sr. will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 11am with visitation one hour prior at The Peterson Chapel  Funeral Home in St. Michael, MN.
