David Henry Battig, age 93 of Buffalo & formerly of Mpls, passed away August 13, 2017.
He was born in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota on June 27, 1924, the son of Henry and Christine Battig. He was the youngest of the family of four. His older sister, Lucille preceded him in death 1-1/2 years ago.
Dave served honorably in WWII in the Army Air Corp on the Pacific Front from 1943-1945. He was in a support position in the Philippines, Guam, New Guinea & other places; some of the time under General Douglas MacArthur. In recent years Dave compiled a detailed account of those war years.
Dave was employed at Honeywell for 43 years. He worked as a Quality Control engineer & inspector. He married Shirley Cramer in 1976. They were married for 39 happy years.
We were all amazed at Dave’s many talents and laughed at his wry sense of humor. He was an avid reader, collector, a poet, a master wood-worker, a gardener, a carpenter and he loved fixing up old bikes to give away to the neighborhood kids. His children & step-children all felt that he could fix up & do just about anything.
History was another interest of Dave’s. He was the president of the Wright County Historical Society in 1994, 1997 and 1998 and was a board member from 1992 to 2007 Dave jokingly sometimes referred to it as the “Hysterical Society.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Jim Smith, step-son, Tom Cramer and survived by his wife, Shirley. Also by his children: Barbara Smith of Brooklyn Park, Karla Bergstrom (John) of Dassel, Kathleen Graff of Tampa, FL and Virginia Battig of Buffalo. Also surviving him are his step-children: Debra Holcombe (James) of Buffalo, Kelly Cramer (Sue) of Anoka and Kevin Cramer of Crystal.

Casketbearers: Kelly Cramer, Kevin Cramer, Jim Holcombe, John Bergstrom, Jeremy Smith and Jeremy Cramer.
