Visitation Information

David Doorenbos, age 87 of Sartell, MN, and formerly of Annandale, MN, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2010, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

David Richard Doorenbos was born March 28, 1923, to Richard and Cora (Van Dalen) Doorenbos in Pease, MN.

Dave served in the army from June 1944 to June 1946, during which time he fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and for which he received the Bronze Star. After being discharged, he worked in several jobs until he started at the Post Office in 1950. He retired from the Post Office in 1980.

He married Dorothy (Kuiper) Schut in 1964. She died in 1977. He has one step-son from that marriage, Bob (Shirley) Schut, and 2 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He married Gwendolyn (Laymon) Kelsey in 1979, who survives him. He has five step-children from that relationship: Duane Kelsey, Lori (Robert) Steel, Larry (Marcy) Kelsey, Dee Moulds, and Tim (Jody) Kelsey. He and Gwen have 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Grace Benedict; and two nephews.

Dave was often very involved in the churches he attended, doing everything from treasurer to deacon and usher. His favorite hymn included the line: “My faith is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.”

He loved to fish, garden, play cards and spend time with his family and friends. He will be missed by all his family and friends.

Visitation was held on Wednesday evening, August 4, 2010, from 4-8 P.M. at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo, MN.

Further visitation was held on Thursday, August 5, 2010, from 10:30 – 11:30 A.M. at Tri-County Alliance Church, Clearwater, MN.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 5 at 11:30 A.M. at the Tri-County Alliance Church, in Clearwater.

Interment followed at the Lakeview Cemetery, Buffalo.
