Darlene Dorothy Hicks, age 79, of Buffalo passed away on Sunday, August 9th, 2015 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
She was born on November 18, 1935 in Howard Lake the daughter of Reinhold G. & Dorothy (Elfmann) Dietz.
Darlene was baptized as an infant.
On May 15, 1949 she was instructed in the Lutheran catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Middleville Township, Wright County.
Darlene graduated from Annandale High School.
On December 11, 1954, Darlene D. Dietz and Darrell E. Hicks were joined in holy marriage at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Middleville Township, Wright County. God blessed their marriage with four children.
Darlene and Darrell owned and operated Buffalo Bituminous, Inc. for fifty three years.
She enjoyed traveling, embroidery, her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren! Darlene was also fond of Florida, the Everglades City Community Church and spending time with the “Buffalo Gals.”
Through the years, Darlene was a faithful member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo. She taught Sunday school, Catechism and was involved in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Darlene was also a past President of the Buffalo American Legion Auxiliary and taught the Legion Juniors.
Survived by her husband: Darrell E. Hicks; children: Chuck (Denise) Hicks, Greg (Sue) Hicks, Brenda Hicks (John Berg) and Darla Hicks Larson (Jim Benson); eight grandchildren: Andrew Hicks, Anthony Hicks, Annukka Neumann, Mathew Larson, Nicholas Zumbusch, Breia Gaskil, Eric Hicks and Rachel Hicks; Step grandchildren: Eric Weller, Danielle Branson and Kristen Weller; great grandchildren: Wyatt & Waylon Hicks, Sammy Neumann, Sophia Neumann, Casper Gaskil, Hadley Zumbusch and Lennon Larson; step great grandchildren: Blake Weller, Olivia Weller and Madeleine Branson; sisters and a brother: Carol Jacobson, Betty Biggs, Duane Dietz, Rose Steuck, Gloria Scheer, Sally Mozingo and Teresa McClanahan; other relatives and many friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister Edrie and by a sister Janet.
Funeral services for Darlene Hicks will be held on Friday, August 14th at 11:30 A.M. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo. Pastor Roger Klemz will officiate. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Buffalo.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 14th beginning at 10:00 A.M. at the Church.

Such a huge loss for our family and the community. Darlene, you will be dearly missed by everyone. Our thoughts and prayers for the whole family as we deal with this difficult time.
