Craig “Doc” Lawrence Nicholson, age 70 of Otsego, Minnesota, passed away May 13, 2023.

He was born on May 29, 1952 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Lawrence and Betty (Oberlander) Nicholson. Craig grew up in Robbinsdale, and graduated from Robbinsdale High School with the class of 1970.

After high school, he was employed at Norwest Bank, until he received an engineering certificate. He was an employee of Bryn Mawr Care Center for 27 years, where he oversaw the day-to-day facilities operations. He was gifted with the skills to fix just about anything, which earned him the nickname “Doc”. He was a natural problem solver and people would often turn to him for advice or help with mechanical, carpentry, or maintenance issues. He was a modern-day MacGyver.

On June 7, 2014, he was joined in marriage to Mary (Jones). Together they made their home in Otsego, MN.

Craig was a man of service and loved being able to help others. He was the type of person that never needed recognition for his kindness; knowing he was able to make life easier for someone else or lending a helping hand for his friends and family gave him enough satisfaction. Craig was someone you could always count on. He had a big heart and was compassionate.

He loved spending time outdoors at the family cabin on Side Lake in Hibbing, MN. Boating out on the lake, working around the yard, and enjoying the sunshine with his family and friends were some of his favorite activities up there. His heart belonged up North.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Betty; father, Lawrence; sister, Sue Hancock; niece, Brynn Beise; and brother-in-law, David Debaun.

Craig is survived by his wife, Mary; siblings, Don (Christine) Nicholson, Barb Beise (Jerry), and Nancy Debaun-Nicholson; step-mother, Nancy Thomas; nieces, Shawna Beise, Heather Jacobson, and Samantha Lantos; nephews, Nick Johnson, Brent Johnson, and Dakota Nicholson; and many other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial are preferred to be directed to the family.

Memorial service will be held at a later date.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to The Peterson Chapel of St. Michael-Albertville. Online condolences for the family may be directed to www.thepetersonchapel.com
