Clarice Lorraine Burchett, age 91, formerly of rural Maple Lake and Little Pine Lake south of Aitkin passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2009 at Park View Care Center, Buffalo.

She was born on July 4, 1918 in Howard Lake, the daughter of William F. & Lydia Bergren Hempel.

As a young girl Clarice grew up in the Albion Center Store and a farm west of Albion. She attended grade school at the Fitzpatrick country school a half mile from her home on the farm. She graduated from Cokato High School in 1935 while living with a friend’s family.

On January 19, 1942, Clarice L. Hempel and Donald C. Burchett were joined in holy marriage. Clarice & Donald farmed her home place where Albion Ridges Golf Course is now located up until they moved to the lake near Aitkin in 1975. Donald preceded her in death in 2000.

Clarice enjoyed a local bowling league, sewing, gardening, cooking/baking, reading, playing cards with neighbors, and coffee with friends from Mt. Hermon and Aitkin areas.

Clarice was a longtime member of Mount Hermon Lutheran Church in rural Annandale and of First Lutheran Church in Aitkin. She belonged to the Ladies Aid groups at both churches.

Through the years, Clarice also belonged to The Albion Homemakers Club, The Country Bumpkins club in Aitkin and to the American Legion Auxiliary in Maple Lake. She assisted with the Albion Aces 4-H Club for many years.

Survived by a son: Tom (Renee) Burchett; a daughter: Sally (Carl) Nyholm all of Buffalo; a daughter-in-law: Caroline Burchett of Chaska; seven grandchildren: Kelly Elliott, Kerry Pevestorf, Jason Nyholm, Robert Burchett, Brett Nyholm, Sarah Brady, Amanda Kolasa; twelve great grandchildren: Abby Elliott, Mitchell Pevestorf, Cheyenne & Hawkins Nyholm, Jack & Luke Burchett, Ella & Emery Nyholm, Isabella & Justin Brady, Logan & Ava Kolasa; sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law: Nyda (Norman “Cy”) Simonson, Tom (Jane) Burchett, Marge (Fred) Febach, Lorraine Burchett and Joyce Burchett; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Clarice was preceded in death by a son: Donald “Jerry” Burchett in 2009 and by her parents.

A visitation will be held at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo on Thursday, August 6th from 4-7 P.M.

A Memorial service for Clarice Burchett will be held at 7:00 P.M. Thursday evening, August 6th at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo.

A private family interment at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery is planned for a later date.
